Default newbie to ocean fishing, I go to MDR any suggestions?

I typically fish at Marina Del Rey off Via Marina, I park my car, then hit up the rocks on that pathway. I fish with some plastics Berkeley Gulps, I normally take in a couple at least. Any suggestions? I am clueless. I go out with my trout rod, and just cast and real, sometimes I just cast and let it sit. I catch small halibuts, and croakers, and at night I get sandbass

Is there a more effective way to fish? I only have freshwater tackle, do rapalas work? What else should I try? Thanks guys. Sorry for the questinos, but I'm new at this.

U seem to be doing OK if ur catching fish. I'm happy to catch just 1 fish, even if it's a 2" baby shiner. I take pride in all of my catches; then I release them.
