    Default Springtime Sierras

went and stayed up at bishop for about 3 days from monday til wednesday, making this a semi-late report. Spring time fishing at the sierras is better than usual. Fished PVR, lower owens and east walker.
    Day 1:
fished PVR and had to walk what seemed like miles to get to our spot. next time, definitely need to bring a bike. there are still a LOT of stockers held over from the derby and it is definitely consistent action throughout the whole reservoir on worms and panther martins for the browns and powerbaits and berkley power worms for the stockers. Caught and released around 25 stockers and 2 sacramento perch (which hit the power worms if you were wondering). Sorry no pics for day 1.

    Day 2:
fished the east walker for little success. pretty crowded already with fly fishermen and the water is WAYYY to clear to fish with spinning gear. But for the flyfishers, nymphing was the way to go and i caught a small brown on a double nymph dropper rig rigged under a clear bubble. All in all, a nice day and a nice place, but the river's famous goliath browns and rainbows were not out that day.

    Day 3:
fished the lower owens with EXCELLENT results. this area is probably the least crowded of all the spots we fished during this trip. Caught and landed around 10-15 BROWNS between my father and I. what was weird was that all of our fish were browns. what happened to the annual stocking of alpers? people around us were landing a mix of the species and we had a catch of pure browns. that was kinda weird. all browns on mepps and small leadheads tipped with berkley and yum plastics. I got pics this time to tell the story. btw. all fished released as usual.

typical brown clone. yeah. i'm wearing hobo gloves. :D

fished with 4lb trilene (which was definitely necessary for all of the fish holding structure in the river) fish were holding in deep pockets so the banks were the best vantage points to shoot casts from.

    cute little guy...

most fish were around 13-14 inches. this pic does not do it justice. lol. i'm actually 6' 2" and my hands are huge. :D

even my dad got into the action. at one point we had a double hookup. that was the peak of the day. Best hrs to fish are from 6 am-11 am. and 4 pm-7 pm. also saw a few nice hatches (for the fly fishermen). drys are definitely working.

I think browns are my new favorite fish for their brute strength and vibrant colors and the sierras is my new favorite fishing place.

The drive home was difficult as the heavy winds were overturning trucks! Be careful of DRIFTERS!

    thanx fer tuning in.
