Thread: No Salmon and Sturgeon Ownage near Portland (Lots of Pics)

Default No Salmon and Sturgeon Ownage near Portland (Lots of Pics)

Took a little adventure up to the Oregon / Washington area for my cousins college graduation and I thought I'd get in some fishing while I was up there  . I mean, how could I resist.

I flew into Portland Thursday evening and the plan was to rally up with my buddy Ebiut who is always up for some travel and adventure later that evening on another flight.

I had some difficulty getting my rental car and had to wait for my firend to come in before we could get it. That led to us being way later than we expected on things. We found a 24 hour Walmart so we could get some grub and our fishing licences for the next day, but it turned out they wouldn't sell us fishing licences since it was after like 10 or something. So, we had to call the guide and delay things so we could get licences in the morning.

Finally got back to the hotel and crashed. Got up the next morning and rallied with the guide at a ramp on the Willamette River for the days fishing. Since I've heard nothing but good things about catching spring chinook salmon that was the intent of the day.

We got on the troll for these bad boys and made our way up and down a stretch of river a few times and this was all the action we got ...

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta

Later in the day the decision was made to switch up and go after some sturgeon ... This proved to be a much more sucessful proposition.

Although it was disappointing not to get any salmon, I was glad we got on some fish. None of the sturgeon we caught were anywhere near keepable size, but even those little ones pulled like a freight train. All fish were C&R'd so hopefully some of you will be able to catch some keepers in the future.

After we fished we went back to the hotel and crashed for awhile. Once we got up we headed to dinner at this place called The Original Roadhouse Grill at the urging of our guide. This place had some kick ***** food and apperantly there are some in so-cal http://http://www.originalroadhouseg...6;asp?state=CA check it out if you've never been there.

The next day I dropped my friend off at the airport and headed to Walla Walla for my cousin's graduation. On my way I got the pleasure of driving the senic route through the Columbia River Gorge. This had to be one of the most place I've seen in recent memory. Here are some pics even though it doesn't do it justice.

    Sandy River

    The Gorge

    The Other Direction

    Waterfalls ...

This sentiment spoke to me ...

    More Waterfalls ...

I almost fell into drink taking this one ...

    More water and green ...

    Road shots ...

And the next day my cousin got her diploma and thus another college graduate is thrown out into the world ...

Drove back to Portland the next day to catch my plane back to the rat race. I enjoyed the drive back through the gorge even though I didn't have enough time to go the scenic route again. I really didn't want to come back. I think I may move up there. The only thing I'd really miss would be my friends and family (of course that's a pretty big thing so we'll see). If i did go, my place could be a northwest rally point for FNN.

Thanx for the link from the SoCal freshwater board. I would have missed the great pix of beautiful scenery and sturgeons.
