Default Short Shaft vs. Long Shaft (Does it matter?)

Just got myself a used boat, I have a 14 foot aluminum that's rated for a short shaft outboard, what would happen if I put on a long shaft outboard? Thanks for any responses.

It matters you want the cavation plate just abouts flush with the bottom of the boat .If you use a long shaft the plate will be way low in the water and cause drag and poss pull the boat left or right .You will also lose top speed and use more gas .I would buy the correct one longshafts are usually more hard to come by anyhow
