Thread: Newport Landing - Ultra Overnight 5/11

Default Newport Landing - Ultra Overnight 5/11

Eight of us decided to charter the Ultra out of Newport Landing, Thurs night, fishing all day, Friday. We were supposed to go to San Clemente, but it was closed for testing. Went to Catalina instead. 30 yellows to 20 lbs and a few calico bass. Over twice that were hooked up. I didnt realize "farming" was such hard work! Everything was caught on live squid with a 1/2 to 3/4 ounce slider, using 15 to 40lb test. The crew was awesome as usual. It was a great trip. The fire on the island was outrageous, I hope no one was hurt. Here are some pics.

You guys really got yellow fever!

    Some consistent large models too.

That last picture the yellow up front looks like it got some major clamping action on it - are they "clamping" fish to get 'em over the rail these days?
Maybe it got mashed or something in a cooler...just curious.

    Great report and pictures.

    Default Yellows

The clamp marks are from the fish cooler below deck. Sure was nice to have, It kept the fish nice and firm. I can't say enough about the crew, Doug and John made sure all the fish were tagged and dropped into the deep freeze. A very memorable trip!
