    Default Sharking......Cat. Isl. 5/24/07

I went out today with my son Tim and met my friend Gene to do a little sharking, gene is the only one I know on the island to ever get a Thresher shark (420 lbs).....so he took us to his spot after we made some huge greenbacks. I really didn't think much would happen but I thought lets give it a try, we did a drift with a couple of the macks for about 10 minutes or so and Gene said lets slow troll them so we can cover more ground, so I nose hooked the fish and threw it out for the troll, as I was letting out line about 20 ft. behind the boat a huge tail comes out of the water and ***** slaps my mack, I was in shock and stood there with the reel in freespool saying "did you see that", Gene said he heard the slap of the tail and all of a sudden my line starts ripping off, I never caught a thresher before so I let him run for about 4 seconds and set the hook, as soon as I set the hook the fish went airborn 10 ft. in the air right in front of us and threw the mack, I was bummed I lost the fish but it was an awesome sight.......we tried a little longer but no go.

My son Tim really wanted to hook a shark so we said we would get him on some leopards because there all over the place at one of the beachs.

On our way there we ran into some big dolphins that wanted to play.

Got to the spot and there were leopards everywhere (oh yeah..we got a few flatties there to.) we caught a few and broke a few off, they ate squid and artificial baits as well, here's a few pics and a video to.

Yeah that one in the video got snagged  but they ate swimbaits as well....there were probably over 100 fish right up on the beach so we just sight fished them.
