    Default Mt. Whitney Hatchery...

    Just for those of you that didnt know..

    The Hatchery was damaged, but not destroyed.

    All the lakes are still getting all their regular stockings,
    all the streams are too..

    well at least thats the case for south lake and the bishop creek canyon.

    yeah, read that when the times posted it up... Whitney fish hatchery hasn't put out big numbers of fish in a long time anyway...they were mostly a tourist spot. Hot Creek is still in action.

    Mt Whitney was used for brood stock to supply trout eggs so it is a hit to the fishery as the DFG will have to use other hatcheries with brood stock to fill the void.

    Years ago Mt. Whitney had great brood stock of brown trout. Brown trout that after years and years of trying were very easy to raise and still hardy when stocked.

    When another DFG hatchery stocked Oak Creek above the Mt Whiney hatchery (which flows through and supplies the Mt Whitney hatchery with water) with trout that I believe had whirling disease or some other fish disease virtually wiped out all that work
