    wow a interesting read ....

this answers a question i have had for a long time ... once we reach our limit not even the crew can take the fish they all must be released... many times i have caught a fish but knowingly i already have my limit and the deckhand helps take it off the line and i tell him i have my limit and he said ok i will put it to the side so others can get their limit ... that always bothered me and now i know its illegal

Yes that was a good read. I have been on cattle boats and after I have told the deck hand that I already have my limit , I was told to keep fishing and that will help the other people on board make sure they get their limits. The last time this happend to me was 3 years ago. Thats the last time I went out on the ocean.

This is an interesting discussion as I've been talking with a couple other guys about individual limits vs. boat limits (27.60e in the DFG regs). There are a couple sections to this, but here's the first paragraph:

"(e) Boat limit. When two or more persons that are licensed or otherwise authorized to sport fish in ocean waters off California or in the San Francisco Bay District, defined in Section 27.00, are angling for finfish aboard a vessel in these waters, fishing by all authorized persons aboard may continue until boat limits of those finfish identified under subsections (a) through (c) above are taken and possessed aboard the vessel as authorized under this section or Section 195, Title 14, CCR."

Translation (minus the various exceptions): You may continue fishing until you reach your boat limit, which is the aggregate of all individuals fishing. Does that sound right? (But note that you may only keep your individual limit.)

Anyway, hope to hear some more discussion on this... Here's another link I found on this:

Oh, and looks like it was from sometime in 2002.
