Default SoCal Family Does Team 57 Event @ Parchers Long Report Tons of Pics

First and foremost, a HUGE thank you to Dana and Parchers Resort..!

Left Thursday (6/19) morning around 5am from the Lake Perris area, made a stop in Ridgecrest to stretch and get some cheaper fuel, before getting up in the Sierras.
    Nice little town.

Next stop was the Mt.Whitney Portal, in Lone Pine. If you ever get the chance to go I would recommend it. The road heads up to the Trailhead, there is camping and parking under large trees and even a stocked pond to get your fishing in the Sierras started.

Checking out the fish, the pond is only a few feet deep, but lots of fish....I bet the bears like that...

There is also an incredible cascading waterfall...!!

    On to Bishop!
Made a stop at Mac's Sporting goods, picked up a Bouyant that I had not seen before (pictured later). Then the kids wanted Mickey D's...
Got some more gas, and headed up the hill, around 1pm..

Stayed on the fork to the right to check out Sabrina first.

We fished the Dam area for half an hour, wind was blowing in our faces. It was more of a "see the lake" trip. Took some pics.

Checked out the Sabrina outflow stream. Saw some fish, but wanted to get to Parchers.

Arrived at Parchers at 2:30 pm. We were impressed with the whole operation.

Checked in, got most of our gear loaded into the cabin.
We walked around the resort and saw Dana and a few Fnn-ers
and some guy named Sansou...( Hey Rich! ) He was telling us that he might be sleeping outside all buttered up for the Bears.....Since his group wasn't there yet..

On to South Lake, 1.2 miles up the road.
Found a patch of snow near the parking lot. Here is SoCalkid2
    throwing a snowball at me...

    Another snow pic.
We didn't even think we'd encounter any snow in the third week in June.

We hiked down to the shore to get in a couple of hours before dark.
I bait up SCK2's pole and throw it in to get everyone started...

About 25 seconds later, I look over to see her pole all bent over, I tell her to grab it, and set the hook...

Here she is with the first fish of the trip.

Ironically, she hasn't caught anything since she was 5 years old...Now she gets the first one....

About ten minutes later SoCalKid1 hooks up and brings in a nice rainbow, here assisting with the net is SoCalGirl7.

Here is SCGirl7 and SCK1 fishing with an incredible backdrop.

    She hooks up next.

The shadow of night started creeping in, making for some beautiful scenery.

Here's SCG7 getting his last few casts of the day in.

One last quick pic, before heading back to the cabin for chili cheese dogs.....mmmm

    Totals Thursday (South Lake) -
    All fish C & R'd
    SCG7-2 on buoyants Gold
    SCGirl7-1 on Crawler
    SCK1(Boy) -4 on buoyants...3 red/1 blue
    SCK2(Girl)-2...1 buoyant/ 1 Crawler

Friday Morning: Headed down to the South Fork Restaurant
at Parcher's General Store, for the FNN pancake breakfast. They were incredible...!!

Chatted with some people before heading out to North Lake.

Took the half paved road up to North Lake(El 9300ft), kind of a steep road, with
    no side rails..

It was crowded, we had to walk around half the lake to find a spot.

The weather was great but the fishing was slow.
SCG7 got the first of the day...

    SCK2 hooks into one...

    SCGirl fishing

SCK1 coaxed a "black" rainbow in close to shore with a bugger and netted it( pic doesn't show it much):(

Released all fish, headed back to cabin for grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches....

Then headed back up to South Lake. Hiked down a few hundred yards from the launch ramp, kinda steep.

    Looking for the honey hole....

My daughter ended up catching a rainbow on a silver Kastmaster all by herself....No pic.

We called it a day and wanted to take a few photos on the way back to Parchers, before the FNN spaghetti dinner.

Even hit the stream next to Parchers.

    Total Friday All released
    SCG7--2 bugger and mini jig
    SCGirl-0
    SCK1--1 netted Black rainbow
    SCK2--2...1 bugger (North Lake)/ 1 Kastmaster (South)

Went to the FNN dinner, exchanged fish stories...

SCK1 and SCK2 waiting for dinner...with their raffle tickets.

Pic of Dinner crowd, GM telling the brown trout story....

Here is Dana's table trying to figure out how BOTH winners of the raffle drew their OWN numbers......

Wingnut donated two expensive bluetooths, for the raffle...

    SCGirl...........SCGUY.............Hungry.......!!

Once again the Parchers crew whipped up an incredible meal!
    Caesar salad
    Spaghetti w/meat sauce
    Garlic bread
Brownie w/ Ice cream scoop for dessert.

    Saturday: 6-21
Got our boat for the day at South Lake. Met Lane (Jared's bro) cool guy, and headed out...

The lake was like a mirror.

    I hooked up first....

Nice rainbow, the kids named it spectacular....We thought that was funny.

Caught it on a jig ( picture later in post)

    My son throwing a jig.

SCGirl is next, hooked this one on a crawler.

    Nice bow

    This fish was named Southie...

    The guys

    Boat Dock

That is me on the yellow boat waiting for everyone's bathroom break, it was around noon and we only had two fish.

    Back to fishing.

    Guys

    Girls

While fishing on the Northwest end of the lake, I noticed something moving that resembled a large Housecat. It looked like a squirrel-beaver love child....A Squiever is what we were calling it. Also, we called it McLovin'....

Later we asked Jared about it and he said it was a Marmot.

    Marmot

SCK2 gets her first of the day, on a crawler.

Rainbow (I'm not touching that thing)
This one got named Toasty the Baker.....

Great weather, wind here and there until we saw this small storm rolling over the mountains.

    Three on the stringer

I was hitting them hard in between rain showers. Bleeder on a worm.

    Couple of Bendo shots

Once I figured out what they wanted it was game over for the fish...

Mr. Bendo had mentioned that they were hitting dark green mini jigs, so I used what I had....

The weather would clear up, then rain. This went off and on for a couple of hours...

Another bow for SCGirl on a crawler, weather was windy...
Notice the fish blowing in the wind.....!

The boy landed one a crawler also....

SCK2 hooks up with an assist from her brother....

A Brookie....So beautiful we released it...

6pm rolled around pretty fast and it was time to bring in the rental boat. We asked "propane" for a family stringer pic......Thanks Propane!

This one is going on the Christmas card!

We still had the urge to fish so we hauled all our gear down to the dam area.

I hooked up on two more, seems the 2 lb test and the jig I had was the ticket for the day....

Big Bendo Pic, Largest fish of the day!

    With an assist from SCK2!

    Family stringer pic

    Totals Sat. 6/21
SCG7- 9 caught mostly on jig
    SCGirl-3 crawlers
    SCK1 - 1 crawler
    SCK2-3 crawlers

When it rained the bite on crawlers was wide open!

    We headed back to Parchers.
And took our stringer of 10 to the cleaning station.

    Jr. helped scale some bows

SCGirl cooked up three, the biggest and pinkest rainbows and also a brown. She fried them in garlic oil. We had limes at the table...They were amazing...!!

    Sunday (6/22)

Had a great mountain breakfast....Made by SCGirl

We packed up the car, to head on out. Here are a few cabin 5 pics.

Parting shot taken by Jared in front of the General store.

    SoCalGuy7 and Sierra_Smitty (Jared)

Great guy, very cool and helpful...!

Jared, Thank you! Parchers is definitely first class!

We headed North for a road trip with no destination.

    Tom's Place

    Lake Crowley

    Convict Lake

    SoCals @ Convict

Made it up to the June Lake loop...Here's June Lake

    Gull Lake

Grant Lake...it's sad to see it so low.

We made it all the way up to Lee Vining! Stopped at Brodie Mike's BBQ for a late lunch. If you are ever near that area, stop and eat there. The food was great! We recommend either the Tri-Tip sandwich or the Strike it Rich Burger....

Finally turned the car towards home at about 3:45. Surprisingly it only took 5 1/2 hours of driving, not counting stops, to get home.

    Continued one last time.....See below.....

On the way home, in Bishop we noticed a huge cloud off in the distance....as we got closer we realized it was actually smoke from a fire in the Sequoia National Forest. Here are some pics we took near Olancha...

I knew everyone who attended would have a great time and from the smiles I see in the pictures It's a safe assumption that was definitely the case.
