    Default Lake Mead 6-7-08

After a weekend off, I was back at this weekend with the fam (and dog) for an overnight camping trip at the lake. We didn't get lines in the water until about 7pm Saturday night. Started off slow with a few bites and only a couple stripers and one decent size channel cat to start the night. After a kick ***** BBQ dinner I put my lines back out, only to be hounded by the little kitties without a curfew. We hooked up with about six or seven little cats from the size of beer bottle to the size of a candy bar. My kids got a kick out of the little pests. It was cool for a while but really annoying after they kept stripping the bait then getting hooked up. I tossed my lines in a few other spots, suckers were all over it. As much as I enjoy fishing, I just not keep rebaiting every few minutes. I called it quits around midnight. Sunday early morning I went after bass in a little cove behind camp, hooked up with a LM using a swim bait.....only to find a small soft plastic with a small jig head already hooked onto the lip. What are the odds of this? I removed the jig and sent it back on his way. That was the only LM of the morning. After breakfast I was after the stripers and cats again. My wife and son did better then I, raking in a few more a piece. The wife reeled in one really fat cat, just under 4 pounds and full of eggs. Sorry no pics on her. We threw her back as quickly as we could.....it would be a waste not to let her go. This way the Mead kitties might eventually become Mojave/Havasu/Parker/Bythe/etc kitties. LOL.

The lake water level has dropped another 5-8 feet. It's pretty scary to see the rate in which the lake is going down. Water is still cool and will be getting warmer each week from here on out. Daytime small Striper action is still good and the night cat action is WFO if you like finger foods. Until next time.

Nice pics, I was out at Lake Las Vegas last weekend, no fishing for me but there were schools of carp that would come right up to ya. I will post a pic later. Friggin $3.75 for gas man.

    Hey there,

I fished just to the north of you guys at Govt Wash. We did the same all small kitties and a lot of those pesky bait stealing little stripers. It is pretty amazing how fast the lake level is dropping every day. The day time temps are staring to rise and it going to turn into night time fishing for me for the rest of the smmer. I wish the gas was only 3.75 now. Hell I paid 4.11 this morning.

We'll have to hookup sometime and fish....

Seriously...I know you're out there and we will hook up before the summer's over. Not many Vegas FNN'rs. I've been marking a bunch of different spots on my GPS......hopefully when the water rises I'll have the black book on the northwest shore spots to go back and take advantage of. Fishfinders are great but nothing is better than first hand visuals of the areas you are fishing. See you soon.

It's those "dam" politicians and utility agencies that are jacking this lake up. Dam them.....
