anyone know when the Sacramento Perch start biting at Crowley?

I have heard in early June. But I have done alright at PVR on the perch in mid August. Do you have any good tips on how to catch them? I just found a school one day at PVR and caught them on night crawlers. But I saw some other guys using curly tailed grubs. I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to fish for them?

either straight up with that or put like 1/3 of a worm on the end and just cast out and twitch

You can usually get into them all season but they really start to bite when the water starts to turn. If you head into all the algae and muck, you can throw out just about anything and they will jump on it. I have picked them up trolling, as well as with nightcrawlers and even PB. Typically though, jigs seem to be the single best technique for landing panfish. They used to do a huge "fish fry" at Tom's place but I can't remember what month that takes place and whether they still do it.

I always catch them using jigs, mostly on the powerbait 3in grubs. Sometimes I add a small piece of worms to the jigs.

I am trying a few different things I found at BPS...they have a LARGE selection of crappie jigs.

I did fairly well last season but it was late summer, I was hoping to get into the action earlier this year...
