Shogun Overnight 5/11-12
Well, as many of you know, I went out on the Shogun overnighter from Fisherman's Landing.
If any of you never been or seen the Shogun before, if you ever have the opportunity, HOLY COW!!! This thing is a cruise ship!!
Take a look at this galley!!
Off to the left of the above picture is the stairway to the bunks, er...suites, below.
I have never seen staterooms so nice or clean!! A lot of the guys and myself were all laughing over the fact that this boat actually supplies sheets on the beds. In weird way, it doesn't really feel like we're going fishing!! ahahaha. We've become use to the vinyl sticking to our arms and legs!!:rofl:
So anyhow, here comes the fishing report...enjoy!!
9:00pm An anxious and slightly excited Funjunkie arrives at Fisherman's landing. Sign in, pick a bunk and head to the boat.
She is an intimidatingly huge boat!! I've seen some wide loads, but this takes the cake!
So I quietly get aboard and look around for staff/deckhand to guide me in, but no where to be found. Instead, just did the usual, put the rods in the holders and set my bag on the racks...and found my self in an Albackore ad!! I can't even tell which one's mine!!
And the wall of gold and silver...doesn't anyone use graphite reels anymore??
After noticing and greeting some fellow patron's of Young's Tackle, I started my usual Funjunkie talk-a-thon with everyone and enjoyed the moment...
Look down at the watch and it's 10pm!! Everybody finally loads up and away we go! I decided since I worked all day and was really tired, that after a few beers to head down into the bunks and sleep for the long day ahead...zzzzzzzz.
5am, wake up and hop out of bed to find myself in the middle of...I'm not sure. I had not the slightest clue of where we were. It was pitch dark, I saw some lights in the distance and that was it. Got a water, asked the cook "where da heck are we?", "Coronado Island" he replies...oh, I see, cool. Head out onto the deck to find some of the guys already up and fishing away~! Nothing really came up, but as we are all optimists, you can feel the "hope" for something with every cast.
6am, the sunrises and we start fishing (officially).
Unfortunately though the weather was really cloudy and cold. This was a sure sign that it was going to be a little harder to catch fish and we were going to have to work at it!!
Well, I'm going to fast forward the middle here, cause it was basically a lot of hit and miss, move and jab, cast and wind, and then finally at the end...the sun comes out and we hit the mother load! Bonito heaven! And a few REALLY nice sized YT!!
After a lot of casts, many bird's nests (argh!!) and just a couple tangles, it's finally time to go home. I like how this next picture came out, it really tells you how we all felt about that last spot after so many unsuccessful stops all afternoon...can you hear him whisper "We came, we saw, we fished yo ***** off!!"
We returned back to dock at around 6:30pm. I slept the whole way home and again, didn't know where we were until the galley cook came to wake us up...he said, "we're inside the harbor, time to pay you tab." That's one alarm clock I don't want to have...:evil:
