    Default Newport Beach 03/08/08

Hit the Jetty early in the morning, 5:30am. Walked all the way out to the tip/end.
Threw out lures(see pix) into the kelps, I think that's what it's called. Wasn't sure if
I would catch anything. Did this for about an hour before I got hit, felt like someone
grabbed my line and yank on it. My first ocean fish on artificial. I was very surprised.
Didn't think my skills would yield reward today. Happy, photographed it, and released it.
Continued throwing for about another hour before packing up. May hit the same spot
again in the future. Hope I land a bigger one next time. Late....

Thanks everyone for the feedback. After browsing through
the Salt section I've decided I have got to pick up an
LC flash minnow 110 Zebra Sardine;), plus
a few other salt water hardware, so I could work the wave.:)
If I'm free this weekend I'm going back out there
and hitting the western section of the Jetty, which by the way,
have no kelp. I would imagine Perch country on this side.
We shall see. Will report result.:)

Default The back bay at Newport

Hey Castaway, if you fish Newport, try getting out on a skiff in the back of the bay (by the PCH bridge tressles), there's a sweet spot there for toad Spotted Bay bass, if you ever go out there on a skiff, PM me, I'll give ya the lowdown....gotta fish the incomming tide though...never outgoing.

Congrats on your calico....keep on those suckas !

I'm not sure if I would ever get out there on a skiff. I'm
trying to convince my ding-dong head bro-n-law how
much fun we would have if he take me and his boat out there.
I'm so possitive I could find a wide open spot on some hawg Bass,
maybe even Halibuts. From shore I could see boaters nailin' 'em majorly.
Couldn't tell which species of fish but it appears to be in the higher digits
    of the scale easily.

If I decide to get on a skiff and
row out there a pm will be sent your way Gary, thanks for the heads up.:thumb:
