Default SW Idaho

Spent a couple weeks over Christmas in the Boise area. Received some Cabela’s gift cards so I picked up some new waders and a 10ft Cabelas Whuppin Stick. They look similar to Ugly Sticks and for $25 I figured I’d try it out.
If you are into outdoor activities Boise has the store for you-2 Sportsman Warehouses, Cabelas, REI, Sierra Trading Post Outlet, GI Joe’s-pretty much everything but BPS.
I fished the Barber Park section of the Boise River right outside town. Flows were low, pools were hard to find. I threw bait and spinners for a couple hours for nada and went back to the house to warm up with some Black Butte Porters. Next day took the nephews sledding near Lucky Peak Reservoir. Fished a shallow part of the lake for about an hour, no takers.
One morning I wake up and it’s dumping snow so I figured I wouldn’t have a lot of company at the local ponds. I was right-went to Quinn’s Pond in downtown and had the place to myself-picked up 4 small stocker rainbows on nightcrawlers. Next day I go back for 1 rainbow on NC and then started throwing a RoosterTail-brought in 9 small trout in 40 minutes. They weren’t like the others I caught, they had a green tint and were smaller. Went back the next day and the pond had frozen over. I found a good sized hole in the ice but my lures kept getting hung up. I had a nasty cold by then and gave up on fishing for the rest of the trip.
Going back in July, hope to fish up in the Sawtooth Mountains.006.JPG[/attachment:94131]012.JPG[/attachment:94131]015.JPG[/attachment:94131]033.JPG[/attachment:94131]Picture or Video 001.jpg[/attachment:94131]014.JPG[/attachment:94131]016.JPG[/attachment:94131]

Thanks for the report! I only drove through Boise back in 96, and I never got to fish any of that area.

Regardless of how slow the fishing was, at least you didn't come home with a skunk.
Nice pics.

As an old Idahoan, I grew up fishing lucky Peak, and more often, Lake Lowell just west of Boise 30 minutes or so. That lake has everthing from crappie, carp, perch, bass, cats, trout, etc! I LOVE Idaho! Thanks for reporting, we don't get too many here. I have to commend you on the overall effort to get on trhe fish, and I'm glad your persistence payed off. Looks like some healthy lil trout you had there. I bet they fought and jumped like crazy!

Sweet report bro.
