    Default SAN CLEMENTE PIER FISHING

I WILL BE IN SAN CLEMENTE THIS WEEKEND. I WAS HOPING TO GO FISHING OFF THE PIER, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT KINDS OF FISH AND WHAT BAIT / SET UP TO USE. I'VE NEVER BEEN FISHING IN THE OCEAN. ANY ADVICE / SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE A GREAT HELP.

San Clemente is host to many kinds of fish.
I've had success with tiny strips of squid on a sabiki setup to catch perch.
You can always use a float and set the hook to hang about 8~12 inches below the water.

Squid works great, market shrimp cut up real small work...

Bring bread or fish food with you and chum a little. See what comes up and where. Not all spots on the pier are made equal....

    Good luck!!
Don't forget to post the results with pictures!!

WELL, FISHING OFF THE PIER DIDN'T TURN OUT THE WAY I HAD HOPED. WE GOT THERE AT 7:20PM SATURDAY NIGHT AND I WAS REALLY COLD AND WINDY SO THE KIDS WANTED TO GO AFTER A HOUR OF NO FISH AND WIND BURN TO THEIR FACES. THE ONLY THING WE CAUGHT WAS A COLD. THERE WERE A COUPLE OTHER PEOPLE FISHING AND DIDN'T CATCH ANYTHING EITHER. I'LL HAVE TO HIT IT EARLIER NEXT TIME.
