Default My Alaska Trip from July.....**Updated with more pix**

Well this past summer I went up to Alaska for a 7 day fishing trip, and actually in Alaska for 9 days, and I never posted the report! Well I had a ton of pictures, but i narrowed it down to just 48 pictures. So here is my report on Alaska with pictures. ENJOY!

There was five of us who went to Alaska, Rick, his brother Mike, Rick’s dad Mike, Mike’s brother in law, Jim, and myself. Well we first arrived in Alaska here is what you see when you get off of the plane.

The first night we ate at a sweet local seafood restaurant which had some great food, and better yet a Viking fan club!!

After spending the first night in Anchorage, we took our time driving down to Soldotna where our Lodge was located. We drove along Turnagain arm, and then stopped at a Wildlife Conversation area.

The lodge we stayed at was a man’s lodge. Just the necessities such as beds, a stove, microwave, shower, fridge and toilet. That was it. So that day we went into town, bought what food we would need and drinks. We also stopped at a local hardware/tackle store and picked up some cheap outfits to fish by ourselves, when we we’re being guided. Here’s a few pics of our cabin, a moose in camp, and then 100 yards from our lodge was the Kenai river, so there’s a picture of Rick with a nice rainbow out of the river, and also a picture of your way out of the lodge, going back into town.

Our first trip was to go fishing for Halibut out of Homer. Since our boat left at 5:30 am, and it was a 2 hour drive from Soldotna, we drove down the day before and spent the night in Homer. This is one amazing tourist town. It’s set up just like you would imagine a fishing town would be. Lots of fish processors, lots of guides, tons of boats, great fishing, and great bars! We stayed at the Lands End that night and hung out at the bar there. Heck the boss was paying (Mike), so why complain! There’s some pictures of the city of Homer, the salty dawg saloon, and our view out of of our room at Lands End.

The next morning we were fishing off the boat Northern Lights with a great captain, Mark and a great deckhand, Allison who was only 18. The seas were mostly calm this morning, and it took about an hour to get to our first spot. Lil Mike hooked into the first Halibut, but that’s all we got there, so as Mark chased the tides, we got to another spot, where it was hookup after hookup on Halibuts in the 25-50 pound range. Rick also got himself a sweet lingcod, and everyone got their limits.

The next few days we had either free time to go fish or explore around the Kenai peninsula, or fish with our guide, Bob Saxton. Bob is a great guide, but the Kings just weren’t running on the Kenai. The commercial fishing had nets by the opening, which ruined a lot of the king’s runs. I had one hit while fishing with Bob, and that was it. Here’s a picture of Bob, and one of the fish counting station.

Well we also did fishing on our own, on the Kaisloff river, with the cheap outfits we bought in town. Fishing was fun at the Kaisloff river, and we all hooked into some Kings. Mine came off after going on a run of about 60 yards, and I couldn’t even turn him at all. ARGH!!!! Mike and Rick both got a King.

Well as we finished up our trip, we took a few pictures on the stops as we headed back. Alaska was a blast, and we are going to plan it as an every other year trip now. Definitely worth going. We all came home with 50 pound boxes of fish each, filled with King Salmon, Halibut, and same Red Salmon, that some other guys in our lodge gave us.

The Salty Dawg was a sweet place to check out, but we didnt stay too long as we felt like we we're going into a bar made for hobbits! LOL Instead we had drinks where we were staying at the Lands End. The Homer Brewing Company Scottish Ale was some of the best beer i've ever had, if not my favorite.
