Default San Clemente Island Rpt. 4/28-29 w-pics

Initially I was going to do an overnighter out to Santa Rosa Island; however, on Friday evening we opted to take a run out to San Clemente Island to try for some Yellowtail and other critters. The crossing on Saturday morning from Long Beach was pretty much smooth cruising. I invited Jason “jscrib and Kevin “Mars to fish with me aboard my 23ft Seaswirl Striper “Big Drum

Our main goal was to catch some Yellowtail Jacks. We fished west of the fleet off of Pyramid Head and it didn’t take long for Jason to go Bendo on a nice Tail.

Here is Jason with his 17lb Yellowtail. He caught it yo-yoing an iron in 200 feet of water.

About an hour later, Kevin hooked a 19 pounder. Yeh buddy!

After a couple more hours of yo-yoing without any more luck on the Yellowtails, we decided to make a move to catch some other critters.

Here is Jason with a 25 inch Lingcod.

Here is Kevin with a 25 inch Halibut.

Kevin with a nice Calico Bass.

    Me with a Halfmoon. Whoopy!!

Jason “The Tilefish Slayer with one of many Whitefish that we caught.

The evening Calico Bass bite was WFO! Here is Kevin with a nice Checkerboard.

    Me with a nice Checker.

    Jason with a nice Calicock.

    Kevin with another nice Calico.

On Sunday morning we yo-yoed for a couple hours for the Yellowtail without any luck, so we when back to catching a bunch of other critters.

    Jason with an Olive Rockfish.

Jason with a nice tasty Vermilion Rockfish.

Me with one of the many Wormacccio’s that we caught and released.

Me with a nice Vermilion Rockfish.

    Kevin with a nice Red.

    Kevin with a Lingcod.

Kevin and I with some bottom critters.

Me with my biggest Sheephead of the day.

Jason with a Whitefish on the iron.

I had a great time again at San Clemente Island with good company and the weather was awesome! I can’t wait to go again.

    Till next tide,

    Jesus H. Calico!

You have enough variety there to start a saltwater aquarium!

I haven't seen a halfmoon that large nor have I heard of a white fish being caught on iron.

Is there something wrong with your camera? All of them fish are giant. J/K

I am hoping to hit Clemente too someday...

Your buddy holding the halibut in pic#3 sort looks like Kevin Costner.

Great report and pictures as usual.
