Water temperature: At surface 54.32 f., 9.51 D.O. @ 10’ 54.68 f., 9.36 D.O.Water level: Lowlevel, private watercraft are currently banned.Permits and boat rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. Currently we are credit/debit only no cash transactions. We do not sell fishing licenses so anglers must acquire them elsewhere prior to their visit. Facial coverings are required when purchasing a fishing permit or when entering or exiting the boats or boat dock area. The lake is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military every Saturday.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels there is a ban on private watercraft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
It was a good week for trout fishing particularly on Wednesday. We are planting again this Wednesday so the fishing should only get better as long as the rains are not too heavy. Big fish of the week belonged to Jacob Lopez of Escondido who caught a 9.60# trout on a hook-up mini-jig in Boat Dock Cove. Other Notable fish included James Kent’s 9.10#, Breylon Hearn’s 8.10# and Roy Duncan’s 5.80# trout. Powerbait or powerworms (yellow& orange) and inflated nightcrawlers are all doing well.
Largemouth bass are still mostly deep, but the occasional male can be found moving in to the shallows. Dark colored plastics, swimbaits, and trout plugs are all solid options.
Crappie are being caught by boaters trolling for them. Crappie respond best to golden shiners or mini jigs.
Catfish can be found throughout the lake and favor cut-mackerel or chicken liver.
