Nope, but make sure you have his stats so you can write down on the license.
Theoretically, retailers are not supposed to hand out licenses unfilled, but considering the fact Walmart hires the most astute individuals, there have been instances where they will just give you the blank license.
I had a buddy buy a 1 day where the date wasn't filled out, so he used it all year. (Don't worry, fishing karma got to him and he was skunked on EVERY trip out)
You just need to know his name and address.. No id required. Licenses went up this year.. I can't remember the exact amount but at walmart it was like $41 or $43..
Great gift.. My brother and sister-n-law got one for my husband last year.. That was his favorite present of all.
