Water temperature: At surface 50.36 f., 9.92 D.O. @ 10’ 50.54 f., 9.79 D.O.Water level: Lowlevel, private water craft are currently banned. Permit and Boat Rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. We do not sell fishing licenses so anglers must acquire their 2020 licenses elsewhere prior to their visit. Motor boats are discounted to $20 for seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and for active military every Saturday.
Due to the threat of Quagga mussels, there is a ban on private water craft and equipment. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Trout fishing is excellent. Young Amber Reader of San Diego has the biggest trout of the new year with her 11.50# caught in Boat Dock Cove on a marshmallow. Other notable catches included; Hieu Hoaug’s 10.50#, Pete Tapia’s 7.30#, Ricky Pion’s 4.80# and Arnold Rasack’s 4.80# trout. Fishing has been best on the east end and in Boat Dock Cove. Inflated night-crawlers, and mouse-tails, have been the top baits.
The bass bite has been extremely sluggish. Largemouth Bass can be found around structure. They respond well to swimbaits and dark colored plastics.
Catfish continue to be caught throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver.
The new crappie float is the place for catching crappie. Crappie are most often caught on finger jigs or live golden shiners.
