Water temperature: At surface 50.54 f., 8.80 D.O. @ 20’ 51.08 f., 8.42 D.O.Water level: Lowlevel, private watercraft are currently banned.Permits and boat rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. We are credit/debit only, no cash transactions. We do not sell fishing licenses so anglers must obtain them elsewhere prior to their visit. The lake is offering half price motor boats to seniors (60+) on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military every Saturday.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels there is a ban on private watercraft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
It has been a week of wild weather with wind, rain, and plenty of cold. Those few intrepid anglers who chose to brave the elements were rewarded with an unflagging trout bite that resulted in some big trout being caught, in addition to any possible pneumonias. Large trout of the week belonged to Fausto Sanchez of Escondido who caught an 8.60# trout using rainbow powerbait near the Crappie Float. Other notable catches included Ricky Fukute’s 8.10# and Bradley Johnson’s 6.90# trout.
Catfish can be found throughout the lake and prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. Contest winners must legally catch their fish at Lake Wohlford and have it weighed in by a Wohlford Ranger on our scale.
