Thresher Sharks on 6/9
We chartered the Bongo's out of Newport Beach. Left around 5am and made mackerel before heading out to San Clemente.
After trolling for an hour, my friend Guy gets hooked up. Lo and behold after 1 1/2 hours of fighting, he brings up a 175 lb thresher shark.
After another 45 minutes of trolling, we get hooked up again. This time I am on the line. After 2 hours, we bring up a 250 lb thresher shark.
The two sharks were the first we ever caught. We called it a day after 11:45am. What a great day. The crew and captain of the Bongo were fabulous and we highly recommend.

Nice report and pics! :thumb:
Not a bad way to get your morning workout.
Welcome to the board (even though you obviously have poor taste in caps)!

Very Nice sharks :thumb:
Didnt know them threshers have white bellys like that.
Being new to freediving/spearfishing. I think I would freak a bit seeing the white bellys in some murky water

NOW!!! That's what I call it SPORT FISHING!!! Good looking sharks. I bet you back and your arms were sore after the battle. Something like that will generate memories that last lifetime. Good JOB!!

Nice Catch!
Quick question, how do you dispatch the sharks once you have them boatside? I see the billyclub in one of the pictures but I am sure if that would do the trick on a 245lbs beast.
I've heard that you are suppose to tie a rope around the tail and drag them to have them drown, but I don't see how that could be done if the sucker is splashing around. One whip of that tail can really leave a mark. :)
