Here is a tip for CATFISHing at Irvine Lake from a boat. After you bait down and you do not get hit in 30 to 40 min. Move to another location. Repeat as many time till you find the Kitty hole.

TM.....what time of the day are the cats hitting the most?

I have had my best luck on the kitties from about 1hr before dark to about 2 hrs after dark. TM is exactly right on the moving. One week we got em in 18ft of water, the next week they were in 8ft. I would concentrate mainly in boat dock cove or the flats.

OFG, When you find the Kitty Hole they bite all day and night long. Key is finding the hole or spot that the Kittys are at. When you do find the hole its wide open .

CATFISHing from a boat at Irvine lake will increase your chances of catching CATFISH. With using fish finders concentrate on bottom structure to find the Kittys. You want to find holes, mounds, channels, etc. Bottom structure knowlage is very imporant to CATFISHing at Irvine lake.

When shore fishing at Irvine lake , I like to move if the CATFISH are not biting in that spot. Sometimes I just get lazy and wait it out and let the Kittys come to me. I try different baits. I like to use raw shrimp in the shell. When using raw shrimp I keep it cool in my cooler til I am ready to use it. I then peel off the outer shell very carefull. Trying to leave the shrimp intact ( whole ) I then hook the shrimp 2 times and leave the hook exposed. It is very important to leave your hook exposed on all your baits for CATFISH. As for Mac, I like to use fresh. I buy them from the Asian markets. I am sure one could go to a Mexican market also. I get my shrimp from the Asian markets too.

Good luck on CATFISH fishing !!!!

Totally agree with TM65 as far as finding the hole. Last year at legends we pulled 6 cats from the same exact spot....literally. After landing 2 and my daughter landing the fish that got her the Jr. award I told a couple other people to "cast right there" and produced another 3. The spot must have been no more than 3 feet by 3 feet. There were boats all around us and we were the only ones pulling fish out...this was in the middle of the day btw. I can't wait to fish the kittys again! Chat again on Monday or Tuesday when I get back....have a great weekend!
