Awesome rport JP. I have been thinking of taking my son out on a 1/2 or 3/4 trip, is having a light load good or bad for us to learn the ropes? We have gone out twice and had bad expiriences. Once, we went out on a saturday in summer, jammed pack with no rail space, the other time was with a fellow member who use to take people on his boat (boat had problems as soon as we got to the shoe, headed back in right away!).

Do the deckhands help out noobies? Im mostly afraid of going, and not having a clue of what to do...Sorry for the hijack!

Hi bets5150,

For newbies .... now is one of the best times to go as the light loads means there are usually less chance of tangles and the deckhand often has more time for each angler.

Don't be shy about asking deckies for help and be sure to let them know you are new to the moo-moos.

Also getting an 'easy to fish' spot is easier on the boats that have a light load.

Rockfish and Whitefish are realitively easy to hook and land so action should be assured even if the fish is not the biggest or best tasting in the ocean.

Just remember .... kids need to dress warmly.

There are many, many boats that are great with kids. Lots of stories in the archives on recommended boats. Seems like every landing has a boat that is espcecially good with kids. Ask guys here and or the general saltwater board for recommendations.

Do a 1/2-day first as it's an easy trip and short enough to keep a kids interest usually.

good luck,

JapanRon

Ron, thanks for the detailed, and informative report.

I hope we get big lings tomorrow on the Victory. Why don't you come and join the NBU tomorrow? We'd love to have you along.

Great job on another fine report.

Better luck next time on them lings using the plastics...I'm sure you'll get 'em next time!

JRon, is there a "large" version of the report with bigger pics by chance?

Hi fishmaniac,

Having done enough playing around, although no official word for sure, my single image size is limited by the board design itself, correct me if I'm wrong, but the deal is that the gray area you see on the left is NOT empty space but space 'taken'. No complaint ...... No coincedence that the right side's gray area is the same width as in the area allocated in replys for info and features.

If I really wanted to be cute I would make an image of the right side of the page and then the left side of the page. I would then have them appear side by side but connected for a large image. Yes ... there is a way to do it but ......... it reflects on replys. If I didn't care about easily reading you guys replies ... I'd do it as it is a no harm no foul to the board.

One way you can view each page (seperately) is to copy and paste the page into an empty word document (put Word setting on third from left mode for graphic display). Clicking on the image and pulling the surrounding tabs allow you to resize the page.

If you wanted, you could even make a special Word Page larger than the standard size and view the page as big as your screen allows! ha ha ha

If the page is printed out, it will print in the standard 8 1/2 x 11 size.

Sorry not to have found a better solution as yet.
