Went out on the Mirage with the Get Bent crew. Our plan was to go after White Sea Bass, then Lingcods. We were able to get the squid to float, busted out the Candy Catcher rigs and filled up the live wells. We fished the grey light for no love. Lots of mud marlins and one seal were caught.

We then decided to go after the lings. Next stop was ridicolous. As soon as we all dropped we were bendo instantly. I was getting worked on my Saltist. Should have brought a bigger rig. The lings being landed were no joke. Never seen them that big, besides in pics of alaska. Alot of people were able to get limits on the first drift. My buddy let me borrow his 2 speed reel. Thank god. Reeling up the 2nd ling was a little easier. The boat was able to get limits of lings in just 4 drifts, thats 40 lings. 8)

Next stop we loaded up on rockfish. Big reds, starries, and few cow cods which ended up back in the water. Heres the pics. You guys definitely have to go on the Mirage. Capt Joe and crew are the best in the 805.

The meat on Lings or Cabezon can be blue or green because the fish was living in a spot that was the same color. Like a patch of sea plants. Weird, huh?

One heck of a report.

That group shot is incredible!

Do I dare ask how big the jackpot fish was...

Single speed + big lings = Icy hot tomorrow.

Did everyone have 2 speeds?

thats a cowcod, about five of those were caught. Which is a bummer since you have to release them, then theyre pretty much floaters

CalamARI
05-01-2007, 03:23 PM
I thought it might be a cowcod just from the sheer size.
Such a shame to watch them float away.

It takes a little bit of effort, but maybe try something like the Shelton Fish Descender (http://www.sheltonproducts.com/SFD.html). You can use it on the same rig you're fishing with.
