One of my YouTube viewers contacted me and wanted to join me at Los Alamitos and I was happy to have a fishing buddy, so away we went!
It was drizzly in the morning and a cold wind came up later on, so it wasn't the best day in terms of the weather, but the fishing was pretty good. Jim caught three or four fish, including a small halibut, and I caught about 10 bass, one of which was legal size. Those spotties are scrappy!
Jim is an avid fly fisherman, but he’s just recently moved to Newport, so he’s not yet setup for fly fishing the salt. Fortunately, we ran into to some local guys that were fly fishing and he was able to chat with them about gear and techniques.
I didn’t manage to get any of Jim’s catches on video, but next time, we’re going to do Newport and he’s going to kick my butt in his home waters!
Here are some highlights of the trip… I put the best fish first.
