How about some takes on the Angels scoring the biggest thing since Mike Trout? This guys pitching numbers are Cy Young and his batting is Mike Trout. Crazy and can't wait to see him.
This will make the Angels very watchable this year.
If the rest of the young arms can stay healthy and the addition of this guy, it could be fun.
I'm curious if they'll play him in the outfield to get his bat in the lineup? For Calhoun???
With Upton, Trout, This guy (name???) and the 'old' 100 RBI machine Pujols the Angels may make some noise this year.
C'mon freeway series!

The Japanese Babe Ruth? He too is the out of shape alcoholic womanizer?

That couldn't hit against real pitchers? Now that real pitchers throw more than fast balls?

This is gonna be great.

Look out Houston! Now you’re only going to win the division by 10, 15 games tops

And it begins....

Hasn't thrown a pitch yet for the Angels and he may already need Tommy John.

I believe he has 100% more wins than your boy (Kershaw) now doesn't he?!
Back at ya!

Good grief girl.
I was talking baseball and not dead peoples social lives.
Ohtani has zero to do with Ruth other than numbers.

And Kershaw has 100% more hits than Ohtani does too.

(In less at bats, no less)

And we didn't pay the guy to hit. ;-)

Care to respond after his first home at bat of his career home run? Besides he does both pretty dang well and even you will have to admit that.
You may want to wait a while and see what shakes out before condemning him, because I'm pretty sure he's going to be a one of a kind. C'mon, he can play almost any position except catcher and he's throws 100mph with wicked stuff. If he gets settled in and is anywhere near as good as he appears to be, he will be a special player for sure. Don't hate because he chose the Angels over the Dodgers.
He probably saw your meme with the prisoners lined up to get into Dodger stadium and bought into the 'fake news'...lmao
So far,
Kershaw has 2 hits in 4 appearances with a 2-3 (.667) with no RBI and no runs scored. Ohtani is 4-9 (.444) with 1 home run 3 rbi and 2 runs scored. Still want to compare?
Ohtani also has 1 win and Kershaw none (2 losses).

Yes, by all means :Big Grin:
Another home run yesterday doesn't hurt. Hopefully he won't turn out to be a good hitting Yu Darvish.
Who cares if Kershaw has Cy Young's and 10 years of incredible pitching (minus playoffs) Ohtani won 'A' game and hit two home runs already

You got me there Brent.

Dude has more RBI's than the entire Dodger team combined I think.

I was at the game yesterday, 12 K's thought they were going to run out of room on the strike out sign. Hadn't been to an Angel game in a couple years. Pretty damn good timing, that dude was amazing!

If this cat can just keep this even remotely close to what he's doing so far, he'll be setting and breaking by records all year long. He's literally in his own category now.

I'm wondering when pitchers are going to stop piping fast balls down the plate for this guy? He looks like Puig when he first came up where pitchers had no scouting reports on him and tried to throw fast balls at him.

That's why he was sand bagging in Spring training!! They thought he couldn't hit Major league pitching. So they are just trying to throw fast balls by him for now. (that's at least what my cousins friends brother told me) lol

Haha, that would've been a sketchy proposition, considering he almost made the Triple A squad.

"I promise Scioscia, i CAN hit! I'm just playing these guys like a fiddle."

A few players from Japan said in interviews that he's always like that. Loafing in spring training and then turning it on when the season starts. We'll see.
So far so good I must say. Watching the game made me wish I was there. It looked like an electric crowd for sure. packed and all standing every time he'd get 2 strikes on somebody.
Went to opening day to watch Ramirez get shelled, but my next game will definitely be an Ohtani start.

Like fine wine...haha
Ohtani is pretty dam incredible, but the Angels have a bad track record with arms, diagnosis and treatment.
I hope they let him bat the rest of the year since he's out all next year for Tommy John anyways and maybe once he's healed a little better mid to end of next year he can bat before he's ready to pitch. Batting obviously doesn't affect his elbow, he's been smashing it.
What do you think about ROTY chances if he continues to smash and ends with a 4-2, 3.31 ERA and 1.16 WHIP?
ZERO other rookies in the league can claim that. There might be some pitchers in the NL that have to bat and aren't too bad, but they're nowhere near what Ohtani is doing.
The two rookie on the Yankees are killing it, but neither can claim 4 wins pitching.

I think what he's done was pretty amazing for a first year player, and it sucks about his eventual Tommy John if he wants to continue pitching.

I also think I'd have to look at some other numbers, like WAR and stuff.

Although I think Andujar is a shoe in for the AL ROY.

And might as well give Acuna Jr to NL ROY now. He could strike out his next 60 at bats and still earn the award.

I just compared side by side Andujar and Ohtani and Ohtanis numbers are better. He just doesn't have as many at bats. Better average, OBP, SLG, OPS, WAR (Ohtani 2.7 Andujar 1.8) more stolen bases (ohtani 9 Andujar 2) with half the at bats plus he has 4 wins and a 3.31 ERA. It really shouldn't even be that close.
Check the numbers side by side and I think you'll change your mind

Do you think the time he spent sidelined could hurt?

Absolutely, but his numbers are still there even missing a chunk of the season. I don't think there's another player anywhere in the league as versatile as he is.
He could probably play almost ANY position including pitching when healthy. I can't wait to see how he does pitching for a full season once he recovers. There are idiot Angel fans that keep saying we should trade Trout and 'let him go somewhere he can win'. WTH? That's a great idea. Give away the best player in generations so we can get 'better?'. People aren't too bright when they think with their hearts and not their brains.

Yeah, Trout is the face of your franchise.

Do you expect Mikey Scioscia to get fired after the end of the season?

He's GONE! Thank you Jeeeezus. I love Scioscia, but he lost the club several years ago and we need new managers and coaches as well.
Hopefully Girardi or someone like him will come on board. Definitely need new pitching coaches. Too many injuries and issues with the pitching staff.
Maybe we can pick up Kershaw? Hmmmmmm

Artie Moreno will probably have your GM sign him for 10 years, a la Pujols.

:Envious:

If you haven't noticed Kershaw as of late, he's not the same guy that commanded 25 million dollars a year.

That's exactly why Arte will sign him to a 20 year deal that will be the first billion$$$$ contract!:EyePop::LOL:
I'm just happy to move on from the Scioscia era. He stayed 8-10 years too long. Apparently he's a 'players' coach, just not a winning coach anymore.

And catchers usually make good managers too.

One thing that irritated me, and I don't know if he still did this, was that he was the guy calling pitches, instead of having confidence in his own catcher to know his own pitching staff.

It felt like I was watching a little league game, every single time the Angels catcher had to look into the dugout to get the sign.
