View Full Version : Rude Day On The Lake

I fished Skinner yesterday. There must me a tournament today. Yesterday there were several boats on the lake with power poles on the back of them.
No fishing etiquette at all. I believe if someone is either fishing a small stretch of reeds or in a small cove, you don't come in and fish the opposite direction and meet them half way.
I fished tournaments in the Midwest that that type of behavior will either get you shot or an *** whipping at the dock.
I hope everyone of them have the same type of day today that I had yesterday.
Nothing but small fish.

Bummer Dale. The inlet gets like fishing from a cattle boat with guys casting over one another.

I don't do tournments , the thinking fisherman changes once a $ is put in front what they do on the water . Tournaments are for sponsors suppliers , with fisherman show casing there products . Look at guys on boats , head to toe with product patches . Boat slathered with stickers . NASCAR on the water have I done tournaments yes . I done a few , I have been involved several forms of competition, Motorcycle Drag Racing 15yrs Gokart Racing 10yrs . They compare greatly in style and substance. Fun and dollars don't go hand in hand .

It's a Cali thing, too many rats in the cage and the cage (lake) is too small doesn't even require money for some to lose all sense of courtesy.

Apparently the min distance they must maintain from other boats doesn't apply during pre-fishing, haha. I personally don't mind when another boat fishes the opposite side of the cove I'm in as long as when he gets close he knows he is the one that must back off as i come down the bank. sounds like he may have spoiled the spots you were going to hit but the attitude of "hey i was going to fish there" is equally as selfish. I'm sure he got too close and that is rude, but had you both been wacking 5lbers 25ft from each other the attitudes of both might have been a little different.

Maritime law and dept of inland waterways lakes rivers and any waters that boats are allowed is a minimum of 50 yards for ANY vessel under power to stay away from any vessel moored anchored of person engaged in fishing! THIS LAW IS AND DOES APPLY TO VESSELS UNDER POWER WHILE TROLLING! Such a violation is punishable up to 500 dollars and or min time in jail! When someone breaks this law and in turn doesnt say sorry but instead points their boat at another person and threatens to ram them....Well PAL you just commited a felony and if I had a witness the young man with the big mouth would be either in riverside county jail or out on bail awaiting trial!
So Cal freshwater fishing sucks to begin with but throw assholes are us on top and it just becomes pathetic!

Same thing that happened to this site trashed by a few idiots that acted the same way as they fish. I met a few people off here and they were super cool folks to say the least, ran into a couple that just blew... Seal nailed it as well.

Contact mines, my friend.

It'll be like minesweeper, but on the water. Only the people who know what the 1s, 2s, and 3s actually mean move onto the next round.

Actually the problem isn't too many people .... The problem is ignorance to the laws governing all lakes rivers and coastal waterways by the people using these waterways either for recreation or fishing ... HOWEVER ... When the agency/s fails the general public in effective policing of our local resources peoples safety and way of life is
seriously at risk! Since P/C is the norm these days why not require any person who captains any motor vessel to have to take and pass a boater safety course and be licensed to operate that vessel! It's my view that the time has come for such a measure because frankly i'm sick of screaming at people WHEN THEY RUN OVER MY ******* LINE!

I love a logic question???? You are saying people break laws because they are ignorant of the law. I'm sure there isn't very many people who drive the Freeways doesn't know the maximum speed limit in most places is 65 mph. Yet in my experience, there is many people go whizzing pass me at 75 mph or more all the time. I really don't think they are ignorant of the law, they do it because they want to and don't have much fear of being incarcerated by authority figures!! (Conehead reference)

Now in applying the same logic in fishing. I think they run over your lines because they are just plain rude (they just don't care how close they are to you) and they too don't have any fear of being incarcerated by authority figures either. lol So by making them take classes and passing a test, (like they do for getting a drivers license) I don't think that will stop them from being jerks, just like it doesn't stop them from speeding on the Freeways either!! lol

Here in So Cal I couldn't agree with you more! YOU CAN"T FIX STUPID ... Having grown up both here and in northern UTAH I spent my youth at the lakes in the ogden area and let me tell you and everyone else who reads this the **** don't fly in that state! You will be caught and cited or arrested for either your ignorance to the law or simple disrespect of others on all their waterways...Garenteeeeeed! But we ain't in Utah is WEEEEEALL!

The real tragedy here is the simple fact that little lake Skinner really was and is an awesome place to go and escape the reality of a So Cal demographic that no person in their right mind would want to live in! Pretty much the only open spaces left in SO Cal coastal plane are the areas protected from development east of the 215 and south of the 60 freeways! Its important to me to try to protect what little resource their is to escape the masses... That means to me to always practice respect for others on the water ... If it became common practice within the So Cal fishing community then everyone could become a GAY ***!
