As far as the rod goes, hit up amazon you can get a okuma makiara deckhand rod for about $140great rods for the price. They come with alps guides and exceptional rods for the price. I got 2 and I will grab either out of the rod rack before my custom calstars. As far as the reel checkout craigslist. Have some some great deals there. Picked up a avet lx raptor for 250....also check out charkbait they usually have sells. You can even pick up a blem from cabbage key pretty reasonable.
