Hi Ghetto Dad,

Hummm i seem to have lost my previsou post to you. The place we caught the Reds and JBs on the Shoe was small and shallow at around 90 to 100 feet .... yes .. that shallow! We didn't hit the spots hard and went to another area after a few fish. Kinda run n' gun strategy.

For sure it was the Shoe! I always double check with my handy dandy FISH n MAP CO. Catalina isl.-Long Beach Charts map.

Excellent buy, GPS numbers and is water and soil resistant.

Ok guys,

I knew I would get a little flak on the squid strips. They say confession is good for the soul. All I can say is I only fished the Squid for 5 casts and then gave it up. Total on Squid strips was one Sanddab, one Starry, one Mackerel, and one Barberpole!

Abandoning the yuckky Squid I managed all the other fishys in my pile!! I may just start using Squid strips on occasion as a last ditch effort to scare off the Skunk ...... as the Winter season deepens and fishing jumps yet another step up in difficulty catching on plastics only.

Truth is .... I only used Squid as my buddies want fish and I figured I'd help them out. I also know that the boat would prefer that I fished to catch fish .whatever and however.... as the only external show of success they have is the daily fish counts.

Hey Japan Ron,

It seems that the bottom gators are biting very well all over the place lately. I have been watching the counts out of the Ventura County boats and they have been getting limits of the bigger models fairly regularly. They must be going into their spawn now.

Hi Ambassadorhawg,

That was kinda my feeling too but haven't checked the DFG site for their life history/cycle. Why ... your observation on Ventura and their biting on the Shoe as well as SMB in all sorts of areas. Tons of shorts trying to get in the act too is telling!!
