To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesday and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Permits and Boat Rentals are now being issued at the Ranger Station. At present we are limited to cash transactions only. We apologize for any inconvenience during this transitional period.
Trout fishing has slowed due to the rains. Big fish of the week belonged to David James who caught an 11.10# trout using rainbow powerbait on Senior Shoreline. Second place went to Jose Lopez of Escondido who caught a 9.65# trout on green powerbait in Oakvale Cove. Other notable catches included Herb Cruz’s 5.80# trout caught on a night-crawler on Senior Shoreline. Top baits are powerbait (rainbow or green), or inflated nightcrawlers dipped in garlic sauce.
Largemouth Bass can be found around structure. Justin Kennedy of Valley Center caught and released a 6.10# bass Tuesday using a plastic worm at the West Buoy Line. The re-appearance of trout in the lake makes this an excellent time for swim-baits.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
