To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Permits and Boat Rentals are now being issued at the Ranger Station. At present we are limited to cash transactions only. We apologize for any inconvenience during this transitional period. The park will remain closed weekdays until Dec. 10th.
The beginning of trout season is just a week away. There are 6,000 lbs. of Nebraska Tail-Walkers scheduled to be stocked for the Dec.10th opener. There have been two small trout plants already made by the Department of Fish and Wildlife making this the earliest we have seen trout in years.
Catfish are biting throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver.
Largemouth bass can be found around structure. Justin Kennedy of Valley Center caught and released an 8.60# bass Saturday off the South Shore Rock Pile using a plastic worm. The re-appearance of trout in the lake makes this an excellent time to throw swim-baits in hopes of enticing a large bass.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
