I always love looking at vintage pics. It gives a glimpse into how great the fishing was back then lol! btw, there are still some piers in San Francisco that look very much like those newport ones you have here.

I have great memories of fishing on the Redondo Pier and buying live bait one or two pieces at a time!

More Than Two Million Fish Caught Off Newport Pier 1924 (http://www.pierfishing.com/msgboard/viewtopic.php?t=18902&highlight=&sid=df000dac9ef03f4501e4b6698a08927b)

...350 fishermen bringing in an average of twelve fish daily had a total of 4200 fish. On Sundays with an average of 900 fishermen the day’s catch would be 10,800 or for the week 26,000 fish. Figuring four Sundays a month to the month and twenty-six week days the total for the month was 152,4000 and for the twelve months or one year 1,828,800.

When I was a kid my dad used to launch our boat at Paradise Cove Pier. They had a crane and sling on the pier, also had a small bait barge. Many moons ago, great pictures..........Verne
