Fishmas Weekend
5-2-16

DEER ARE ON THE MOVE – DRIVE SLOWLY AND SAFELY AND KEEP A LOOK-OUT!
Wowzer – it was a wild one up at the Lake this weekend. Fishing, this Fishmas, was definitely better than the weather, although the weather was typical Opening day weather – snowy and blustery. Vehicles started arriving in the snow covered lot at 3:00am and with those drivers not knowing where the parking lines were made for and interesting parking experience later in the day. A few stuck cars in the Lake bed ‘parking lot’ and fisherpeople being the people they are all helped to get them unstuck – great entertainment from the warm Cafe.

Limit after limit came up the ramp – most included fish at the two pound weight – makes for a great fish dinner. Almost anything you threw was working. Had a group of 4 catch and release over a 100 fish in a two hour window. And it didn’t matter where you were fishing – from shore in front of the Café, in the channels, back at the Inlets – you were catching fish. If you weren’t, next time head up to the Café and we’ll tell you how it’s done – normally with NightCrawler, PowerBait, Salmon Eggs and Lures! Thanks again to the Department of Fish and Wildlife for the GREAT pre-Opener stock!

As we were so busy on both Saturday and Sunday, only got one picture of a fisherman. That of a 3-fish stringer weighing in at over six and a half pounds caught Opening day by Greg Hovivian. (We’ll try and do better here on out).

If you’re heading up to Bishop this weekend, there’s plenty to do in the Valley with the Choo-Choo Swap Meet and the Eastern Sierra Home and Garden show. Don’t forget Mule Days starts May 24th – Check out all the fun stuff to do at the Bishop Chamber of Commerce website: www.BishopVisitor.com (http://www.bishopvisitor.com/).

If you’re coming to the Lake, don’t forget sunscreen and dark glasses –the snow and sun makes it pretty bright against the blue sky. DON’T FORGET THAT JACKET.

The weather forecast for this week is once again unsettled, but with temps warming up a tad. We’ve got a chance of rain or snow showers pretty much every day except Tuesday for the week and weekend. Temps are predicted to be in the low 50s and high 40s with the low temps in the upper 20s. You can check out the weather forecast according to Howard our local weather ‘guesser’ at www.MammothWeather.com (http://mammothweather.com/). You can also check out www.weather.gov (http://www.weather.gov/) – enter Aspendell, CA (which is the little community right below Lake Sabrina) in the search field and you’ll get the forecast for at the higher elevation. You may need to scroll down on the webpage to see the temps.

Rick, Patti and Bryan are back. About mid-May, Len and Ginny will join us along with a new face – Dwayne. With Len and Ginny returning, we start cooking during the week of May 23rd.

Hope to see you Fishmas Day, April 30, 2016 and we look forward to seeing you sometime during the summer!
