Decided to do a lake test run with my new (used 06 Silverado) pickup and Wifey was undecided to either hit Skinner or Perris. The Mrs said lets go to Skinner, so we hooked up the boat grabbed a couple of rods we got to the lake around 9:30, stopped at the store and talked with Kevin. and grab some drinks. Water level is down, we were reading water temps 56.5-57F at Ramp 1. With all this warm weather I would think the water temps would be up. Rigged up the rods and lowered the DR and headed out. We were metering fish in the middle of the lake btwn 15-30'. The stripers are hitting now. Stripping White flies are the ticket, we managed a couple of schoolies before 12pm. There were 3 other boats out there and one limited out by 11am. We came up on floater was not sure what species-looked like a baby carp?? Idk? Left around 2pm to pick the kid up at school. It was a beautiful day out light breezes and fish are biting. Maybe 10-11 boats in the lot. The guys on the points are getting stripers on chovies too.

Dang Vince! Take a day off and I miss you. Glad you hit some fish. It is pretty out there now. Lots to see on the shoreline now too. Bobcats, coyotes, birds of all kinds. Surprised you were seeing such low temps. I was metering ~59*. Hope to run into you eventually.

Thanks for the report Vince. I'm not sure I would say the fish are biting. It's been very hit and miss for me lately. I've trolled white flies the last 2 trips out and haven't scored once. I've put a few fish in the boat, but they came real early in the day on swim baits. From what I've seen, there are only a couple of boats putting fish in their live wells. There isn't a line waiting at the fish cleaning station.
It is a great time of the year for a boat ride.

Dale I would have to agree even some of the guides that are fishing the lake are not catching
But like you said it's a great time of year to take a nice boat ride.
And who knows you might even get lucky and hook up a fish or so.

Sounds like a nice place to take a nice boat ride :-) I recently got a new boat and still practicing how to launch and retrieve it, if you can provide any information on price and etc.. it would be helpful Thanks in advance.

Pat, was looking for your rig but since we showed up late in the am, I figured we just missed you. Heard they did some workat the ;ake to drop the level down a lot of water rushing in now. We saw a couple of coyotes too right side of Ramp 1 shore line. My F/F is a older Garmin had to bang on it make sure it was working but never saw the temp rise above 57f the whole day. Hope to get out there later in March after the River trip-cya later.

Getting used to the Uni Troll 10, I had a smaller Lake Troll model which I plan to rig on the starboard side. I'm running a 10lb ball to reduce blowback. I like the Offshore SW releases.

Exciting seeing more than a couple of boats land stripes next time I go going to hit it early and stay later. Hopefully this is the start of a great year at skinner.

Hope it gets better as the water temps warm up, with the next 10 days being in the 70-80s hopefully things kick in gear with the new moon phase around the corner. Good luck next trip-kill it.

Hernandez, congrats on the new boat. Skinner ramp 1 is never crowded, pretty wide and the docks are in good shape. More you go fishing the better you will get at launching/retrailering- Cost was $20 for me and wife(w/1 fish permit) to launch. When you exit the park you have to check out with the ladies at the gate(left lanes) so they can do a quick boat check and sign out. Skinner has a lot of amenities for campers too-nice clean lake. Wish the striper fishing was great like back in the 80s and 90s though with DD's. Good luck out there.

Thanks for the info!
I usually fish Perris, but it can be such a Zoo sometimes. And with DVL being closed to private boats, I doubt it is any less of a fiasco over there. I have been thinking about fishing Skinner for a while now, as long as the water is there, I may hit that this weekend. I would rather fish a tougher lake where the water is less crowded.

I'm not a regular at either lake but with DV shut down, I plan to hit Skinner more often this year and Perris too for the giant panfish. Skinner launch has minimum Kaos then it is mellows out after the dawn patrollers launch. Good luck out there.

Thanks for the verification kwin, a young predator bird grabbed it out of the water but kept dropping it. There's probably more of those in there.

Went Friday from a rental. Water crazy low BUT inlet was flowing full force so might be done with the work they were doing. Super slow on green bass. Only managed one but it was a fat 5.1lber in 25-30'. Not much up shallow yet
