newport pier vs. balboa pier?

which of the two piers would be a better pier for halbut or bonito? i have never been to balboa pier but i have heard really good things about it. I often go to newport pier but ive only had really good luck just a handful of times. And another quick question, i see a lot of people using squid at the piers and i wanted to know if i should cut the squid and how big, or just use it whole. Thanks for the info.

I prefer Balboa over Newport just because Balboa has only regulars and not all the tourists are there.

As for bonito, of its WFO its WFO anywhere

For halibut, I would be leaning toward Balboa but Newport is very close behind.

Squid!!!!!

Cut in 2-5in. strips (size depends on target species). I would use hole squid for sharks, halibut, rays, etc. More of the bigger class fish.
