La Niņa for sure. Those little guys are the reason you got a shot at a yellow right now on a 1/2 day boat.

Question for the people catching yellows right now -- are these in their stomachs? Genuinely curious, even though I'm not a salt guy.

Kind of the opposite of La Nina, El Nino.

And look at all the resources they're taking up! That bulldozer contracted to clean them up ain't free! Bet they haven't even learned the native language yet.

Pelagic red crabs seek warm shallow water to spawn. They are an indicator of el nino conditions, but ignore the people whining about radiation from japan or climate change.

this is a natural occurance every summer, though more noticeable during strong el nino conditions. They normally stay south of san diego, as our waters are normally too cold for them, but the warmth has allowed them to migrate up to socal.

Yes. Yellowtail eat them. Just about everything will eat them. Caught two yellows a couple weeks ago, one full of crabs one full of sardines. Interesting considering they were caught in the same area. Guess the one full of red crab was just lazy.
