I know this is WAY late, but it was a special fishin' trip for me so I decided to share anyhoo. My sister-in-law had the camera and I waited until she got around to sending the pics. I went to a family wedding (wife's side) in Ventura a couple of weeks ago. It was the first time in a LONG time that I got to hang out with my nephews from Utah. Their dad, my bro-in-law, is a heck of a cool guy but does not fish. Therefore, his kids, have never fished before. I made the executive decision to get my nephew Broc (age 5 1/2), on his first fish. I got him one of those Daiwa Spincast setups (no Batman or Spiderman here, we went straight for the Daiwas!) and picked up some squid from the liquor store. After I tied the largest sinker I think the rod could possibly handle, my little girl, who has many fish under her belt, actually taught Broc how to cast. He got the hang of it quickly:

We hung out for a while, it was late in the morning and I was a bit skeptical about getting bit.

And then, OH YEAH, hook-up! Small BSP that Broc was happy to land but not too eager to touch. So I held it for him while he posed for his first "big catch photo":

Then, later on, we partied at the wedding, my wife and I:

And, it's tough being a kid these days. "Hey, go easy on those Shirley Temples!!!":

Had a great weekend, and am ecstatic that I was able to be part of my nephew's first fishing experience! :)

Scott

Excellent. I wish I had an uncle like you. I hope Broc remembers this. Never late for story like this.

Howdy Scott,
Man, you are one of the greatest uncle.
Your knowledge of fishing should be written down and published.
Take care,
servantjoe

Thanks for the kind words guys!
About getting published, I think I may know enough to fill up a pamphlet.
The rest, I thank FNN for.
And for this trip I clearly owe thanks to Fishsum (Brent) for a trick I have been using since I laughed at it when he first told it to me.

Later,
Scott

Your nephew will probably enjoy catching mackerels off the local pier. That's what hooked me on fishing when I was a kid
