Is there a limit on how many hoops a person can drop? or per boat? Do you have to have a specific measuring device with you or on board or can i just use a measuring tape? 20 years ago or so, my dad use to catch lobsters from the pier using treble hooks on his fishing pole. is that legal?

limit is 10 nets per boat and yes you need a gage per person also the lobster limit is 7 per person .please read the F&G reg.good luck.

On the pier, I believe you can only have 2nets per person. On a boat you can have 5 hoop nets per person, and 10 nets max.

Do youself a favor and get a copy of '07 DFG Regulations, Sect 29.80 and 29.90 (keep it with you to use in a discrepancy).
It is not worth the fines if you're caught doing something wrong.

DFG has been checking ALL the boats coming in, at most bays & launches..

DO NOT GO, without knowing the regs ! ! !

5 nets Per person, 10 nets per boat, Valid ocean stamp on Lic.

One Meter per person (lobster gauge), on the person fishing/netting...

Have fun & be safe......... :D

The DFG have been strict- you gotta know the rules before taking bugs on shore (or even onto your boat!)

If you have the limited 2 poles on the pier can you still have 2 hoop nets or does the hoop nets replace the poles ?

Fin Fish — Gear Restrictions
28.65. General...
(b) On public piers, no person shall use more than two rods and lines, two hand lines, or two
nets, traps or other appliances used to take crabs.

I interpret this rule as allowing two rods AND two nets.

Thats funny..

What I see is TWO, whether it be rods & lines or nets.. Limit TWO, not two of each..

"OR" being the operative word not "AND"... Thats just how I read that quote....

Sansou can we have a legal opinion ???? :D Send the bill to BIG0FISH ..... :D

I concur
I just wanted a second set of eyes. Thats how I interpreted it also.
Total of 2.
2 poles
OR
2 hoops
or
1 of each

IMHO the rational for this was that one person wouldn't over take a whole pier or at least excessively use it more than anyone else

I been reading the regs, and some where along the line I remember reading that is 2 per person, either or, 1 pole 1 net, or 2 poles, or 2 nets. hope that make sense.

Question.

Do you need a license to hoop off a peir. I know you do not need a license to fish but I am curious about hooping??

Please let me know, I am thinking of taking my lil-bro in law out this weekend.

no, but you do need a gauge to measure your catches.

Yeah, I see your point now. I agree that it's two of whatever. Lucky when my girl and I fish on the pier we have three poles and one net so we're still legal.
