Haven't been here in awhile due to family stuff, but I'm looking to buy a boat for going to Catalina from Dana Point so I can scuba dive. Any suggestions on one ? Id like to be able to go to Lake Mead with it as well for vacations, skiing and such. Any recommendations on a "dual purpose" boat would be great. Budget is up to $40k. I looked on Boat Trader, too many listings to sift thru, not sure where to start to narrow it down.

No suggestions ? Anyone with sport fishing boats, what do u have and what would u do different ?

I would not plan to consistantly head to the island with anything less then a 21 footer AND a kicker motor.
AND at least a 40 gal tank But More would be better.
Everything else that you mention,d could be done with a 17 + footer easily
Many on here are ALOT more worthy of advice as far as the salt is concerned .
Im sure that Monday morn you will get quite a bit of advise.
