I was able to break away from day-to-day life for a couple hours with my oldest son and decided to get a few casts in, hoping for a little fun. Well we were blessed with a real beauty!!! Of course the battery was out on my scale so I quickly measured the length and girth with a couple pieces of line and then measured the line when I got home. I know what the charts say online with fish of this measurement, but I was looking to get some input from those who have had experience with models like this. The measurements were 27" length and 19" girth. Trust me when I say the pics don't do this fish any justice. Oh, and that is a my 7 year old trying to hold her up.

Thanks for your input.45970459744597245973

7lbs would be my guess. Good times with the kid is always great and the pb is a huge bonus. Good job.

Riverside_Angler,

According to the "Fish Weight Calculator" contained in the link posted above the fish weighed exactly 13.579411764705883 lbs!

A real nice fish that your son will remember the rest of his life...and you too I am sure! Fond Memories were cemented in for life! Keep fishing with the kids. They will never forget the times spent with Dad fishing.

I would normally say 10 but I have to agree with Pete here. Shes spawned out....8 to 8.5 maybe. She sure has the head and gullet of a double digit though.

riverside- Having many years as a fish taxidermist, and working on fiberglass reproductions made from molds of lots of actual Largemouth Bass, I have a pretty good idea what a bass will weigh because I measured the length and girth, then weighed the bass on accurate scales. This way I could have a supply of various sized molds for future customers, so if they just weighed the bass, I could give them a mount of that weight. If they measured the length and girth, I could get them a mount with those measurements too. I have a mold that measures 25" long with a girth of 19" that weighed 10 pounds. Another one is 26 x 20 and she weighed 12 pounds. I don't have a 27 x 19, but one of 27 x 22 that weighed 16 pounds. Maybe these will give you an idea of what your trophy bass weighed. She was OVER ten pounds if you are sure she was 27 inches long. Congrats buddy! Did you catch that fish from shore?

Thank you all for the wonderful responses. It's nice to see there are genuine people on this forum. My original guess on the weight was 8lbs but I don't know where that guess came from as I have never landed a largemouth close to that (the fish in my avatar went just under 5lbs). With the adrenaline pumping at that time, I probably couldn't tell the difference if the fish were 5 or 50 lbs. Moreover, that fish was peeling line on a buttoned down drag, so I know she was big and strong. When I came home and measured the length, I was really surprised on how long she really was. I really doubt she was 13 lbs as the charts suggest, but that was one LONG solid fish, making me wonder that it could be near the DD range. Anyhow, I guess the lesson here is to always have a working scale.

Fishmounter- I was hoping you would chime in. I know your background and appreciate your input. Oh, and yes, I did catch it from shore. Texas rigged 8" worm into the wind...wink, wink for those who need some tips.

Awesome fish, but if you'd ever seen a 13 pound bass. It could almost eat that one.
Solid 8 pounds plus. Nothing to sneeze at for sure. Congrats.
