Great theory....I'm just wondering who was posting what and where between 1989 and 2008 to perpetuate "the curse" before I started these yearly threads here on FNN
http://fishingnetwork.net/forum4/showthread.php?32066-Dodger-thread - be careful opening this and don't get any dust in your eye
(apparently DS has decided to take the blue baton and run with it the last few seasons in a blatant effort to show he is the biggest Doyer fan on the board!)

Dodgers should do well.

Padres took a big leap to get better. They picked up some bats and a malcontent with injury problems (Jeff Kent said so quite awhile ago).

I don't care about the world series as long as the Dodgers **** the Cardinals in the *** with no lubrication till they bleed!

I want the Dodgers to deny them the reach around and sweep the entire 2015 matchups. SHUT THEM SONS OF ***** es out every night.

I want Holiday to rupture his anus at second base trying to take out our infielders again after he gets HBP.

I want Adams to eat so much he sits his pants on the field

Yadier ( ***** *** ) Molina can **** a monkey and get aids

Wainwright can suck on Kershaw hind teet another year

Wong can eat cats for all I care

The Pads will definitely have more than 1 fan this year, considering they're commitment to try to buy wins. If healthy, they have a pretty decent outfield in Meyers, Shemp and Upton. They've definitely upped their pitching staff as well, and will be the annoying gnat that the Dodgers are constantly trying to swat away from their face this season.

(Jeff Kent said so quite awhile ago).

While I personally didn't like Matt Shemp too much, I do take everything Jeff Kent says with a grain of salt. This is the same jackass who lied and said he fell off his truck while washing it, and broke his wrist. Then the real story came out that he was popping wheelies on his motorcycle, and fell off. Swell guy. The only thing I give that guy props to is when he choked out Barry Bonds in the dugout. He gets props for that.

So I take it you don't like the Cards? We'll sweep them in the regular season, and they'll end up winning the Wild Card as usual, then sweeping us 3-0 during the NLDS. (Where Kershaw will lose 2 games)

Book it.

Heard Grienke got a lube shot in his elbow since it was sore the other day. Hope it's not a telling sign of things to come. Something tells me he's gonna opt out of his last year and head into free agency land. I hope our GMs are ready for it. I'd hate losing the Serial Killer.

they need to give some of that ish to the pitching staff...

will Brandon McCarthy be mistaken for Darren Dreifort on the street?

is Riyu Ri-yused up for the season/career?

are Pederson, Urias and Seager on their way to Philly for Cole Hammels?

or will the Wonder Twins just wait and see what free agents turn up come June?

stay tuned... (if you are one of the 30% who actually can.)

One of the good things that I've seen from the new GM(s) is that the moment another team asks for any of those prospects, the phone connection dies mysteriously. Unlike Colleti, who would trade 12 of our guys for a new suit, these new GM(s) know when to hold firm. Pederson, Urias and Seager should be in blue for a while. In fact, if anybody even mentioned Pederson, i'd also hang up the phone so that word runs around that we're not messing around; unlike Fox who would deplete the entire farm system because someone offered them a 4% tax cut.

McCarthy was a gamble that we rolled the dice on, and it became snake eyes. It happens. We have the deep pockets to deal with his early departure.

Ryu? He threw a few pitches off the mound a few days ago, but apparently there's no clear distinction on when he comes back. I'll keep listening to the pundits who think that our injuries early in the year may be a blessing in disguise. My big bet is that Ruben Amaro is a bigger moron than our front office, so if we do get Hammels, we'll get him for a few canisters of Skoal and 12 bats. We may throw in 13 bats.

Even with the injuries, I'm still loving the depth of the team, which is what large pockets get you. Unlike SF, our injuries aren't causing us to be at the bottom of the cellar.

Hey, at least I'm not taking away your peanuts, and no, this is not an article from The Onion, although I wish it sorta was :-\

http://www.scpr.org/news/2015/05/10/51586/dodgers-to-host-peanut-friendly-game-may-11/

When the Dodgers face off against the Florida Marlins on May 11, some attendees with peanut allergies will be able to enjoy the game without the fear of ingesting them.
One section of Dodger Stadium will be cleaned to be free of any and all peanut products Monday. It's part of Major League Baseball's push to cater to baseball fans who are allergic to peanuts with "peanut-sensitive" games.

"It is so important when any Major League Baseball [team] or any major sporting event validates this condition by saying, 'You know what, we want our fans to be comfortable,'" says Louise Larsen, founder of Parents Of Kids With A Severe Peanut Allergy, The Blog (http://parentsofkidswithaseverepeanutallergy.blogspot.com/).

She tells KPCC it's a way to help children with allergies feel relaxed and safe at a baseball game.

So, in the 7th inning, they will also replace the lyrics "buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks," with "buy me an EpiPen® and carrot sticks..."

And, more importantly, if we can't eat peanuts that day, what am I supposed to throw at LQ?

So far so good!

Considering all of our injuries, some other teams would have been scraping up the bottom of the barrel.

But once you have an ownership that rewards the fans' investment in the team, then it's all dirt off our shoulders. We lost a starting pitcher? Fine, we'll go sign 2 more. I always appreciate ownership who does all it can to get to the promise land.

Olivera....Saeger....

I know we only got Rollins for 1 year for a reason, but it seems there is yet another logjam at 3B. I don't think we'll see Rollins eating the pine anytime soon. But what happens after this year at 3B?

West Coast Papi, Guerrero, Turner, Olivera, Saeger, etc.....

They keep saying Saeger is "too big" to play SS so they're trying to convert him in a 3B. If that were the case, why did we buy up every 3B in Cuba during the off season?

This is a good dilemma to have though. "I've got so many great 3Bs that now I'm in a jam." I thought I'd never hear that coming from the Dodger organization. Although, it will suck seeing us get rid of some of this talent so we can get an arm in September.

I love all the butt hurt people who didn't want to see Uribe shipped off.

"But...but...he hit that home run that one time against the Braves."

Yeah, but as Janet Jackson said, "What have you done for me lately?"

We have 50 people who can play third. While I understand he was a club house favorite, this isn't a campfire session at Camp Anawanna. We're trying to win a World Series here, and quite honestly, I was glad to see the brass pull the trigger shipping off a proverbial favorite, in order to increase their odds on getting to the promised land.

We loved you Uribe. May you pull a hamstring walking out to play third for the Braves. Ultimately, I root for the name on the front of the jersey, and not the back.

John James and Juan Tomas better be good!

I realized we weren't going to get many 'great' relievers for a pudgy dude who was solid at 3B, but had a nagging and recurring hamstring issue.

Sure, Uribe won our hearts with that blast in the 2013 NLDS, but my regression charts show that he's on a down swing. May as well flip him while there's still some value and the cigar smoking dude is somewhat healthy.

There is a traffic jam at 3b. With Olivera apparently MLB ready, things are going to look interesting here in a few weeks.

And Turner is the everyday 3b now? It's not like we have a guy named Guerrero who is apparently hitting the cover off the ball waiting in the wings.

Go Mattingly!

I thought the nerds' TI-85 would've calculated that starting Nicasio may have been synonymous to rolling a "1" in Dungeons and Dragons, and they would have brought Zachary Lee up as the sacrificial lamb for Game 1.

But apparently they knew something I didn't (other than the fact that I already knew Nicasio's stats SUCK at Mile High) and they decided to roll the die, and voila, we get a "1."

Now the nerds have to hope Greinke gets game 2 and we at least win the series.

And as much as I'm a fan of cybermetrics, the nerds need to leave their TI-85s alone and concentrate on winning some baseball games the old fashioned way. (Gasp, yes, I know)

I'd rather have Cueto. Throw Chapman in there. We'll give them Winnie the Puig. That way Greinke doesn't have to resort to tossing Puig's luggage in the middle of the street, and will prevent Justin Turner from whopping his a$≈.

LOL, so apparently the trade above wasn't "100%." The new new trade is:

JULY 29: The Dodgers, Marlins and Braves have reportedly swung what appears to be one of the most complex three-team trades in recent history, though nothing will become official tonight. The “basic” structure of the deal (though there’s nothing basic about this move) is as follows: the Dodgers will receive right-hander Mat Latos and first baseman Michael Morse from the Marlins. They’ll also add top prospect Jose Peraza and pitchers Alex Wood, Jim Johnson and Luis Avilan from the Braves. Atlanta, in turn, will receive Cuban infielder Hector Olivera, lefty Paco Rodriguez and minor leaguer Zachary Bird from the Dodgers. The Braves are also picking up Miami’s Competitive Balance Round A pick in next year’s draft (No. 35 overall). The Marlins will come out of this deal with three minor league pitchers — Kevin Guzman, Jeff Brigham and Victor Araujo — plus the financial relief of shedding the remaining $14.3MM that is owed to Latos and Morse.

You got all that?

I presume we'll know shop Wood to the Tigers in hopes of Price.

All I see is a bunch of low risk, low reward trading by the GMs. Wish they had the cojones to actually do something big, but atleast we didn't just give up major prospects like the Blue Jays did for a 2 month rental.

We did get Latos and Wood outta this entire thing. Something tells me the Dodgers are done making moves, and this is the roster that we'll have to make the Post Season run.

All the trading is done.

We got Latos, we got Wood. Let's hope that's enough to propel us to the promise land.

There's no way Toronto would deal their #1 prospect, to organize a deal to send what they just got, to the Dodgers so that we can send them junk.

It's hard to see him keep making the same mistakes over and over, and then have it become mental.

It's almost like he has already made the decision to swing (or not swing) before the pitch is even made.

Where's the hitting coach to assist? Perhaps cut back on the swing so your hands and weight are held back as long as possible so you're not continuously fooled on off speed pitches? This guy strikes out more than LQ does during Ladies Night at Barney's Beanery.

It looks like Mattingly is going to let him watch some games from the bench and try to figure out how to make some adjustments...that might involve using a lighter bat and doing some 2-strike hitting to the opposite field...he's a good center fielder...I hope he figures it out. Also, it looks like Ethier might make it easier for Mattingly to sit Pederson.

I think that Tim unfortunately is tainted, being part of the "Mattingly Guard." He's packaged with Mattingly, so wherever Mattingly goes, he goes. You do bring up a good point, which is why I think why Wallach wasn't considered, and I think we have our answer.

Mark my words, if the Blue does not win the WS this year, Lopes, Honeycutt, Bundy, Wallach and Mattingly better pack up their bags. Roenicke will be our manager in the interim while the nerds try to build a coaching staff they think can win it all.

Yeah, that's probably right...in lots of businesses, when new top management comes in, they replace middle management with their own people either immediately or in stages.

Tying? I'll show you my last attempt at tying a fly. Let's just say that it went downhill in a hurry, much like the Dodger 2015 season. I may have as well captured your common house fly and super glued him to a hook.

I'll be without an Internet and phone connection during the last week of the season. Something tells me that once I hit West Yellowstone on our way back home and I get cell service, that I'm gonna receive some very bad news in regards to our playoff chances.

After this winning streak and the Giant's collapse, it's likely they'll make the playoffs now, especially with the expanded roster that gives them plenty of pitching options. Then the two questions will be, once they have to pare the roster down for the playoffs: will they have some reliable relief pitching and starters other than Kershaw and Greinke, and can they hit in the clutch?

The TI-85 computed FIVE days before that if Kershaw got into trouble and the stars were aligned with Venus, that Mattingly would take him out.

Nevermind managing in the situation. The Excel spreadsheet said that he must take him out. It said so 6 months ago. Just like the Excel spreadsheet told him to start a bunch of lefties against deGrom. Including Yaz, whose shoulder is so messed up, he can't even swing.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!! Damn funny!!!!!!! I personally didn't think #22 pitch badly enough to get yanked, he was pitching AROUND hitters, missing outside..& why didn't Honeycutt talk to him when it was clear he was doing that? They just yanked him for Baez...

MM

DarkShadow

why didn't Honeycutt talk to him when it was clear he was doing that? They just yanked him for Baez...

Because as Dawn said in his post game interview, they already had made the decision that if Wright came up that inning, Kershaw would be pulled, no questions asked.

Never mind having your pitching coach go out to actually talk to the best pitcher on the planet to see what his mind set and game plan would be, or examining the fact Wright had looked terrible against Clayton in his previous at bats and perhaps he may have been easy pickings in that particular at bat.

The cards said to pull Kershaw so Mattingly did. It's all about Donnie Mathematics and the silver lining to not getting out of the NLDS this year is that we may have a more competent manager leading the team the next, and hopefully the next time we see Donnie is in a Marlins uniform, leading a team whose management, personnel and fans, could care less where they finish in the race; in other words, the perfect landing spot for a guy like Don.

so, our hitting with runners in scoring position wasn't shameful - being shameful would mean it exists. Is it the players? The hitting coach? Manager? Cooperate culture? Or has the age of buying championships passed and now they must be built (with a few free-agent bells and whistles here and there?)

Zack just opted out. Will we write a check?

Can Seager or Pederson be salvaged?

Can we get any kind of return on Puig? (I was behind 3rd base dugout last night and he clearly doesn't give a shti about baseball right now.)

Nearly thirty years since the last World Series appearance. If the Cubs come through this year we will be the symbol of futility in baseball. Will my daughter be watching with her grand-kids when the Dodgers finally break their Curse? Will their grand-kids?

Will any of this ever be seen on television by the majority of fans?

A few scattered thoughts fueled by the hangover last night.

Zack opting out is normal. The game nowadays is dominated by the "Me First" mentality, which is synonymous to the philosophy this culture ingrains in every one of us. As I said before, it'd be wise to back up the Brinks truck for at least 4 years, maybe giving Greinke a 5th year option. With the size of our wallets, I don't see this being a problem. The last thing we need is to get into a bidding war with Greinke, because if that happens, and I was him, I'd tell the Doyer organization to eat dirt.

Seagar and Pederson are here to stay. Regardless of their lack of performance during the post season (and the 2nd half of the year with Pederson) I truly believe they are the future faces of the organization, and management would be stupid to let them go, or get swindled on a half *** trade.

Puig? Just like Apple Stock, you sell when high, and buy when low. At this point, his hamstrings are the biggest liability, and teams will use that (and his lack of baseball IQ) as reasons to fleece us over. Unless we get a solid deal, I wouldn't mind keeping the mental midget on the bench, and have him swing outta his shoes when the opportunity arises. It sucks that every time he takes the field, his trade value diminishes. Getting something decent for him now seems outta the question. It looks like we're stuck with the Cuban.

I'm refreshing my google alerts hoping that "Mattingly is fired" will be the headlines soon.

And for those who use the excuse of "Mattingly doesn't go out and hit for the team nor does he field for the team therefore it isn't his fault," then why do managers even exist then? With that mentality, a manager shouldn't even be part of the payroll and the GMs should decide the line up and changes during the game.

I'd love to hear the thoughts of other Dodger fans regarding this year's failure, and where the team is headed in the near future. I'm sick of the "300 million dollar budget gets you nowhere" rhetoric that seems to have invaded cyberspace in the last 12 hours and would love a fresh take from fans who actually follow the sport and not just the team.

I think you touch on the central issue here. The future is in the future. We gotta get our farm system running right for a time before anything really good can happen.

I think you touch on the central issue here. The future is in the future. We gotta get our farm system running right for a time before anything really good can happen.

Yeah, you can't really scorch the earth (thank you Fox, and McCourt) and expect that in 6 months, you're going to be shucking corn for a profit. Re-building a farm system takes time, and the progress so far considering the circumstances has been going pretty well.

A few NLDS thoughts:

1. Grandal is scheduled to have surgery on his shoulder here soon. So, essentially, Mattingly sent out a player who can't swing the bat. Effin brilliant strategy, Mattingly.

2. Saeger's bat got real cold, real quick at the end of the year. After Game 1, Mattingly should've seen that he (and Carl Crawford for that matter) was struggling, and perhaps may have went with a more veteran short stop in Rollins, who had been in these situations before.

3. Why is Utley appealing the suspension if you're not going to start or use him during those games? Might as well sit him out for 2 games and not have to deal with a potential retroactive suspension during the NLCS.

4. Utley's slide was legit. MLB needs to get together and figure out whether or not the rule in the books is going to be enforced. 2 weeks earlier, the Pirate's starting SS broke his leg on a take out slide, yet Torre and the MLB crew didn't bat an eye. Suddenly during the NLDS this is an important issue that warrants a suspension? If Utley broke the rules, why did the umpires not enforce this at that time? In other words, thank you Buster Posey.

http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/621685/Posey.gif.opt_medium.gif

5. Ethier yelling at Mattingly just shows how little respect and control this guy has in the clubhouse. The fact that the team showed zero fighting back when they were down this series? Clubhouse attitude can be attributed to one person. But let's sign him for another 3 years and say that because he's a 'nice guy and signed my baseball,' means he shouldn't be held accountable for the team's performance.

6. Go Cubs.

Unfortunately, we didn't strike when the iron was hot when the last competent individual was without a job. We snooze, we lose.

I don't think our next manager, or two managers for that matter, will NOT be the long term solution. Front office's responsibility is to realize that there is no long term solution in the near term, and we need a bridge (or two) to get us across to the point where a clear solution is unveiled.

It's clear that no World Series again meant Mattingly had to go, but it's ironic that, for a management team that lives and breathes sabermetrics, any likely replacement they pick will not have any statistical measurement (e.g., win/loss percentage, playoff record) at the major league level that is higher than Mattingly's, unless they pick Dusty Baker.

Not defending Mattingly...I also disagreed with lots of his managerial moves/nonmoves, but unless they get to a world series with the same guys and a different manager, the huge Dodger payroll without a pennant to show for it is likely more a measure of poor expenditures on the part of ownership and upper management.

just two options for the Dodgers: Pay someone to take Puig off their hands... and then watch him become a super star or keep him and suffer one disappointment after another. He will only be crappy here he will only be awesome elsewhere. That is the way the Baseball gods want it.

Sad but probably true...maybe they got Chapman to give him a big brother who can help him grow up?

How the Dodgers Can Spend the $46 Million That Lost Them Zack Greinke

-12 light meals for Hyun-Jin Ryu.

-A one-time donation to the LA Times to pay off their T.J. Simers settlement (http://variety.com/2015/biz/news/tj-simers-wins-lawsuit-la-times-1201633997/) without having to lay off anybody.

-A six-episode Netflix sitcom starring Brandon McCarthy and Brett Anderson

-A social-media team for Magic Johnson, so that his tweets, on topics ranging from Kobe Bryant’s retirement to the Paris terrorist attacks, are no longer published four days after said events happen
