10/8/07 I quit fishing.

Today is the day that i quit fishing. Went on a 1/2 day pm with Mike and Bob today. Redondo Special. Got word that they had live squid so we went to go check it out.

Started the day on the sculpin grounds as usual and as usual limited in 30 minutes. I put all my rattler's in the community bucket but today there was no bucket. The captain just said to put them behind the bait tank in between the tank and the fillet board. As I was dropping the bigger sculpins behind the fillet board, one was still flipping around wildly and wandered onto the open deck... I kicked it and it pierced me through my rubber boots. The spine hit my bone and I knew i was in trouble. I hurried to the galley and poured hot coffee on it immediatly. It worked quick. Actually the heat from the coffee hurt 10 times the sting of the sculpin. The rattler sting isn't as bad as they say it is but it still felt sore for 30 minutes.

Anyway, we took off to Rocky point and saw some YT's boiling. Mike hooked up on a monster YT and it took him 20 minutes to land. The deckhand (Taurus) was great at getting the uncooperative newbs out of the way and Mike landed it with sweat running down his face and into his eyes.

Then about an hour later Mike gets stuck in the wreck and free's the skwid after immense pumping. We realized that he was onto another big fish. Once it got to the top, Taurus gaff's another 7 pound goat!!!

At that point, i decided to go to the bottom to catch my main target fish... yes CAPPO, the Lingcod.

Bob hooked up a Lingcod but it was barely short. had to throw it back.

I didn't catch Jack today. After getting hit with the sculpin, I didn't catch anything.

I QUIT.

Anyways get out on Redondo Special 1/2 day. One of very few 1/2 day boat where you have a good chance of hooking into an exotics (YT, WSB).

chilibeast - Taurus is an exceptional deckhand. I learned a thing or two yesterday from him. He's also somebody I wouldn't want to fight when he's drunk. That guy looks pretty tough. About 6'2 215 lbs. And a tatoo across his chest that says WHITE PRIDE.

BTW, big Taurus is one cool dude. He did an incredible job keeping me out of tangles and getting newbies outta the way. Once close to the boat, there was a seal looking for a free dinner. He was screaming like a mad man and swinging the gaff to keep the seal away. Perfect head gaff also. Thanks big T.
