Nice to see a small town eatery get such good accolades.

Agreed.

(Wondering just how this thread is bound to go sideways)

It's not my intent for it to go sideways. I just thought given other threads on this topic, it was worth sharing the article.

I've eaten there...good Santa Maria tri tip sandwich...the owner has a big Santa Maria barbeque (the kind with a grill that you crank up and down) in front of the building that he cooks everything on, with oak.

This place is famous for breakfast. Several article reviews on the place.

Convict Lake has 4-5 star fine dining restaurant by the main lodge. Expect to pay....

Don't forget to try the Astro Burger in Kramer Junction on 395 while on your way to the East Side. Great burgers, don't let the looks of the place scare you off.

Is there a place in Olancha that looks like a big red barn ? Maybe called Reds ?
About 1981 going to Mammoth stopped with a buddy there and he was a punker with dyed hair at the time.
He ordered a ortega burger and fries. He took the top bun off and the cook placed a big moth about 2" on the paddy.
He was POed and we left, I was cracking up. It may have been the Roadhouse ?

Bowling Alley in Bishop serves up great steaks and seafood at below what you would pay in so Cal prices. When you walk in you will say "what the Hell am I doing in here" but pretty sure once you eat you will know why
