I got the Skunk from the Surf. But Brought Home a Full Limit! SWAT Report Sunday 1/18

Short report with lots of pics (but sorry, no fish porn). :Wink:

I headed North to Santa Barbara yesterday to hit the surf and hang out with Mikey, the Fishing Yoda aka Exfactor. Conditions didn't look great for the surf, but fishing was only the secondary agenda for the trip. Mikey was going to take me Pismo Clamming for the first time afterwards and I was looking forward to learning something new... :Big Grin:

Met up with Mikey and Brad (Dawn Treader) at grey light and hit the surf. As expected, the swells were kinda big and water clarity was poor. We fish a short stretch of beach for only about 2 hours. Brad and Mikey got a few Perch and a couple of Smelt and I caught a Bird. :mad:

We had a few hours to kill before the low tide so we ate breakfast, went to Sports Authority and visited a local tackle shop before going back to the beach for our clamming session.

Mikey showed us what to do and in about an hour and a half, we each had a limit of 10 Pismo Clams each.
Digging up Pismo Clams are easier and takes a lot less work than collecting the Cockles variety. Really hard work getting those Cockles... :LOL:

Brad, good seeing you again my friend. I'll come back up there soon and we'll do the long hike Perch hunt. :Twisted:

Mikey, you never fail to impress me Yoda. There's always something new to learn from you each time that we meet. Thanks for being my inspiration, mentor and friend. :Cool:

Nice trip up north with the guys. Sorry the fishing wasn't better but looks like you more than made up for it in the clam take. Man, I don't think I've dug for pismos in over 30 years. Very cool that you guys got on some. Hope that 2015 is treating well and looking forward to sharing the sand with you again soon.

I just happened to be doing some surfing myself on "the computer that is" and all these bells and whistles scared the you know what out of me! I don't know how you make my computer alert me to a report is up, but then again I have witnessed you pull off magic tricks many times before!

Being serious, it looks like a great time in the northern region with Mikey & Brad. Even if the swimming variety did not want to play, at least the sand dwellers were available in the low conditions after the pause for lunch.

I also love to see the terrain shots that show the grounds are more difficult to get to!

Somehow we need to get our schedules to align again as we did in our past!

Sorry I didn't get out there with you guys on Sunday.

Recon on Saturday worn me out. G-Mart and I were on the water Sat. morning freezing. Moved around the AO for no fish.
Plan B worked out just like yours. G-Mart didn't even us a pitch fork to get his limit. Just used his feet.
Great to see DFW Scott and many other Wardens in force Saturday afternoon.

Great NON fish porn report brotha. Sorry for bowing out on this one but I had a rough day myself up in that area the day before so I decided to entertain the big ol skunker-rooooo down in SAMO bay the next day closer to home. Wound up coming down with the darn flu I've been trying my best to avoid! Man this stuff sucks big time. Spent the last two days feeling just this side of death....UGHHH

I'm sure Mikey will give me a rain check on this one!
