Or do you lean more towards Justice Thomas's opinion which said the 2nd amendment right was protected more by the Immunities Clause? (Which of course, pretty much blew the Slaugher-House Cases out of the water, since the Supreme Court ruled then that the Privileges or Immunities clause was not meant to give federal court the power to invalidate state laws and the Court defined the provision so narrowly so as to include only rights that were protected before it was enacted.)

However, even illiterat people would at times be expected to sign their names for some kind of legal documents. They would be expected to make their "MARK" which could be as simple as just an X. My Grandfather in WW1 had some illiterate blacks in his command. When it came to signing their name for something official such as receiving their pay. They would just touch the pen and my Grandfather would sign their names for them. When it comes to our dearly departed friend Bucket, his "Mark" could some day become a very valuable collector's item. lol
