View Full Version : Back to the Future!

Hello my long lost friends.

I now realize the time has advanced well into the future since my last report in July of 2011.

I've been attempting to get back involved with you all for quite some time but the work front and some electronic issues have keep me from posting. My comp. has been down and my "FLIP" phone has been unable to connect for some time!

Made some last minute plans to get out in the surf as a mentor to 3 newbies. Been a while so I too was doubting whether I could even still read any charts as far as conditions were concerned. It was decided to start at the location of this past HG6 location at Will Rodgers as I figured the location was pretty user friendly to the newbies.

Arrived at 0600 and suited up to these conditions of very flat water, good bait present, minimal weed issues, but no one wanted to play on the nice rising am tide. We gave it a good work over prior to returning to our vehicles and make the attempt to get turned around to the north in the 0800 PCH traffic.

Arrived at the next location and this is my second image I saw after scanning what looked like even better conditions than the first location. Would it be a magical castle that dreams are made of?

Was not to be as this was my next image after scanning the horizon. It will teach him to mess with the well fortified artillery from those defending their territory. Our artillery of LC's, Cast Masters, & Swim Baits were not producing any bites.

Mike(531lead) as seen here in a HG6 pick was the first to get in on the action after switching to a drop shot rig for a few small piglet perch and his first ever pancakes on just his second surf session.

Eddie (Hesbros) decided to break the smelly with his first surf Bone!

This long lost buddy of mine finally decided to go fishing again. He has sure grown since the last time we enjoyed some fishing time together.

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG0087.jpg (http://s190.photobucket.com/user/flyngby/media/CIMG0087.jpg.html)

On just his second Surf trip he managed his first ever surf butt at a so close 21+.

Happy Holidays to all!

Great to see you back out there Steve! Seems like you made your way back to the surf just in time for Mother Nature to shut it down on us for a couple weeks.:Rolls Eyes: Looks like foul weather ahead but god knows we could use some rain. Hope you and your family have a great holiday!

Brotha Steve,

What a pleasant surprise ... to open the FNN site and to see a posting from you once again! :Thumbs Up: There is a Santa!

First of all Steve ... your lack of presence was noticed by all and you were missed at HG-6!
With that being said ....
It's really good to see you in the surf again my senior SWAT Brotha!

Heck ... I remember the last time that we fished together .... it was just before the MLPA closed Pt Dume and we had hiked and fished our way to Paradise Cove.
 Ha ha ha! You were showing all of us newbies how to beach legal Hali's by beaching one right in front of us :EyePop:!!!! How'd he :EyePop: do dat?!?!?
That was a :Big Grin: fun day for me!

Well you didn't really pick a good time for your salt water return ... due storm surges.
But any day in the surf is a good day in my books regardless of the outcome ... when you spend the time with family and friends.

Once you get all of that fire smoke out of your lungs and the Holidays are once again behind us ... I'd appreciate my next lesson from you ... on how to beach a legal Halibut.

Thanx Steve for the festive fish report with pic's!

Sincerely ..... "The Grasshopper"!

SP Dan <"))><

"Happy Holidays" to you Brotha .... and to all of your family and loved ones!

Well dust off the ol cob webs sir......Good to see ya back on the FNN. I do know you have been getting some sand in between your toes as of late though. I always knew you would find your way home after fighting all of those fires. You were truly missed at HGVI my friend.
Give me a buzz if you want to hit it up some time buddy!

Good to see the crusty old SWAT fishermen still swinging for the fences! Might be awhile before any of us get to try with this impending storm, although the lobsters may come out and play this go around. Hope the holidays are filled with cheer my friend, and you still got it bro.

Hi Steve

Nice to see you put up a report on the forum. And a good one at that!!! I'm glad you've been able to get out on the sand and do it in style - sharing your experience with others!!!

Last time I saw you was when Noelle and I got to hang out with you and your son at the trout derby at Hanson Dam back last April (before that it was at HG 5 when you came by to help out my girls) If you are up Ventura way and wanting to hit up some spots give me a jingle. It would be an honor to hang out with you again.

Take care,

Nick

Roberto,

All is very well as I have been trying to balance my family time including the extended & expanding with some nice out of state visits, my extended work time that has been busy this past few winters due to the drought, and just plain being a tired old man at times that have put my time on the waters to a few limited sessions with the "Kid's Events" with the LARRC at Hansen Dam and Pier point and the excepted last moment urge to get out even just for a walk on the beach for some quiet time and careless if any fish wished to partake in the fun!

Happy Holiday wishes to you in return!

Steve

Don

Thanks Don,

My son Brad has been bugging me for many weeks to get out but the darn Wind Events have ruined our plans not on the waters but me having to work. I happened to get a call from Hesbros about getting out and we just took our chances before it really got bad..

Some limited success and learning time in the waters for the newbie’s. Our Spot #2 was Spot #2 where I met you and Bones in what seems like ages ago!

I saw some green grass on the forest hillsides today and had to ask my crewmembers if it was the real thing or just a mirage!

Happy Holidays to you and the family also!

Sir Danimal,

Thanks for all the kind words “Cough, Cough”

Heck! “Cough, Cough” I remember even a little farther back when we first met down between the Manhattan & Hermosa Piers in the surf on that July Day when Bones and we were trying to cast for the fences to catch the swimmers in the Pier to Pier swim, and Bones also had an ulterior motive to the fishing and we were just wasting some time unknown to me for a visit to the 6 person V-Ball Finals! “Cough, Cough”

Was kind of wondering why you were still in your waders while we were watching the festivities! “Cough, Cough”

As you stated, any day in the water is a good day! “Cough, Cough” Wish I had the opportunity to spend as many days on the water as I worked! That day is in sight! “Cough, Cough”
Thanks you for you Service my friend or none of us would have the opportunity!

Happy Holidays in return!

Nice going out there in the suds, welcome back!

Aaron,

Mike,

Great to spend some time on the waters with you on Monday and hopefully it is now in your blood and you got addicted to make that long trip from extreme north La County to do it again!

Upon further review I would redact my statement of your first surf butt being a pancake based on the tale of the tape! And the fun capture of the release that was in very quick and gentle order.

Congrats on changing and adapting to the conditions and getting some to come out and play!

Thanks for Representing the ANF at HG6! Spread the word for next year!

Until we meet out there again. Happy Holidays!

Steve

Mike,

There were more than cob webs. Some folks are just content with their “Flip Phone” and lack of home computer for some extended time.

Wish I were to have time and the flexibility to spend as much time in a week as you get on the water as I get in just a year of late! I do very much appreciate the kind words and it was very hard not to think of you all at HG6 while I was on the way to battle just days before.

Happy Holidays GRANDPA BONES!

Enjoy the time with the Family!

Steve

Mr. Mikey,

I may be a Cold & Rusty fisherman but those that do not take the opportunity when thou back are against the wall will never have any success. Hopefully settle down in the suds but I really hope for copious amounts of rainfall in the future in the right duration to not cause any more damage to those areas of my work.

Happy holidays to you and family also!

Nick,

First is congrats to Alexa, Noelle, and yourself on your induction!

It’s been a pleasure to spend the few moments I have experienced with your family on the fishing grounds and from the first moment I knew there was something special. Seeing you all at HG5 on the sands, offering some very limited help, your success at that event, and the way you all have pay’ed it forwarded at Hansen Dam and at HG6 is what makes this all special and as they say “You Get It!”

I thank you for the invite to your fishing grounds and will try to set something up in the future as time allows!

My prayers were with you and your fellow Camarillo Springs residents that had the unfortunate result from Mother Nature during this past week’s rain!

Happy Holidays to all!

Steve

Lil Sis Alexa,

Thank You for taking the time to respond to this report.

Been some limited time for me on the waters, but hopefully I can tell you the reason in person the next time we get together and some fish together and show me how to catch fish like you do as I am quite rusty in the surf!

Happy Holidays !

Some how I missed you in the reply's. Was burning the midnight candle!

Yes it as been another busy year for me but I really like what I am seeing in the current weather pattern to give us a break in the action and hopefully spent more time out with my fiends.

We have definitely been long overdue for a trip together!

Take care brother!

Thank you Steve,
Fishing has always been in my blood. Where there's water and a possibility of fishing I'm in. I really do enjoy the surf fishing scene. Ever since I was a lil guy my family would go to the beach, to do the family beach thing and when we would get to the beach there was always a fisherman or two for a short while in the early morning. Sneaking in before the wild beach goers get out in the water and start attracting hooks. I'm ever humbled by the fishing family you have; from HG6 to random meet and fish times, to the Hesbros telling me fish tales all the time. Glad to see there are still real fishermen and fisherladies out there to enjoy the time and pass on great fishing etiquette. Catch and release and only keep what you intend on consuming.

Well, where do I start...Steve, it was great to actually get out with you, it has been a very long time. I myself is just as guilty as you about not putting the time in...to be honest, I need to thank Mike (531Lead) for the few kicks in the butt to get me at least near the water. As you know, as for most of us, it is not about catching fish, but spending time in an environment that you love with good people. It was great to have Brad come along, my how he has grown. Now that you have your original fishing buddy back, maybe the two of you will find yourselves on the water more often.
