Hi all,
I am looking to buy a gift certificate for my step father for a guided Diamond Valley Lake session. We have had very limited success using wacky senkos and I would really like my step father to learn a little and enjoy a successful day of fishing. Any recommendations on the best guide for Diamond Valley? Mainly looking to fish bass but open to anything.
Thank you for any guidance

Art Hill would be my pick. Art might also suggest a different lake to allow your stepfather to experience all of the different techniques of Bass fishing and put him on fish at the same time.

Lol, hey, look who's a lurkn'...

Art I know this isn't a Vail thread but what's happening with the future of Vail? Last I heard there was uncertainty in whether there will be access to the fishery. Anything been settled yet?

Yeah I am a lurker, it's how I learn to fish. I am alive and well, just flying low under the radar. I stay out of trouble that way. :Big Grin:

Vail Lake is very much alive and well, and now the property of Rancho California Water District. My membership is good until next September, and after that I am not to sure what is going to happen. I am betting the lake will open to the public in the future. The water level is very low, but still able to launch.

If this winter is anything like last winter, then Vail Lake will go off big time. Last winter the bass bite was insane. When other lakes were slow, we were crushing the fish at Vail Lake. Not many members left now, and the numbers are falling off each month. Not much trouble finding spots to fish. Some days I am the only boat on the lake.

Geez, you got your own pig trough there Art. Fall, winter, spring or summer they gotta eat right? I've got mixed feelings about the lake going public. On one hand, I'd hate to lose a good Bass fishery in so cal. On the other, I'd hate to see what would become of it if it's opened up to all. I got my arse handed to me the one time I did get to fish it and I've got to get back there again sometime for redemption, lol.

Good to hear your alive and well Art, hope to see you there soon...

Let me know when your going there and maybe we can meet up. There are still some big girls in there. My biggest at Vail this year was a 9.25# back in April. Wow we totally hijacked the ladies thread.

I'll do that Art, thank you! Nine and a quarter is a pig! I think Dev had it right though, Vail would be a great place to learn the techniques. DVL can and is a tough fish even for the regulars at times. It was today and even Brent Ehrler who was out filming today said it was a grind. Vail would be a good low key fish and with you as the instructor, he could get lot's of practice with a higher catch ratio there so we didn't really hijack it too bad, lol...

Honestly, they are all pretty good. Otherwise they couldn't survive as a professional guide. I would throw a dart and go with wherever it lands...

Wow, neat pictures. I really do miss that guy Corey. Never met him, but his posts were, ahh, always interesting to say the least. Whether you agreed with him or not chances are you always made a point to check out his posts. He wasn't shy about speaking his mind. He sort of reminded me about having three older brothers. When they lived at home we fought like "ratz in a cage". When they got older and finally moved out I missed them terribly..........no one to fight with anymore.

That picture was from 5 or 6 years ago, when DVL was closed to private boats due to low water level. Everybody and their brother went and bought memberships to fish there. Now very few people have memberships to fish there, and certainly you never see a scene like those pictures show.

I have been the only boat on the water my last four trips. Makes me a little uncomfortable in a way. I always wear my PFD and attach the kill switch. No one to help if I need assistance. On the up side, when you have the lake to yourself, you can cherry pick the spots.

That makes sense... Vail is right next door to DVL I believe. Ive only fished it once
