Pretty sweet. For $229 looks worth it. What do you think? I would tie it off to a rental with stainless not cast it. Looks better than other portable fish finders. I'd take my iPad out over the phone. More battery life and bigger screen. Slowly dragged behind a rental.....

I saw the vexilar one but you needed the home system on the boat to route to your cell.
The fish hunter looks like it's made for boat renters...or duct. Pretty sweet.

The amazon.com reviews are very sketchy on this product.

Actually, the review distribution is very interesting. It either gets 1 star, or 4/5 stars.

What's more, the 4/5 star reviews are all clustered around the same date. 3 of them on June 26th, and 5 more between Nov 24th and 30th. They are all also written by people with only 1 review to their name.

I'd read the 1-star reviews, I suspect those tell the real story. Just my opinion.

I have a humminbird PirahnaMAX portable unit that I use on my kayak, and have used it on rentals in the past with success. I would recommend these type of units, they work quite well as they're basically real fishfinders that are made to be portable, not gimmicks or not-quite-mature technology. And they're cheaper than the fishhunter.

Yah I hear you. I liked how portable it was. I prefer the size over a big sensor pole and screen to lug around. It is really new and may have some bugs. Also, I know a lot of people who are smart and techy who are not big on taking the time to submit a review. Also, users reviewing may not be tech savvy and therefore if it doesn't take 30 secs to link up to your screen device and work perfectly may give a poor review. I'll do more research.

If you do end up buying one, let us know how well it works. Would be great to get a "real" on-water review on it, from a verified fisherman.

I think this kind of technology will eventually be great -- be interested to see if that day has come.
