Today I went to Balboa Park with some of our friends. It was pouring rain outside. I caught eight or nine tilapia, they were mostly pretty small. This was my friend Maddie's first time fishing and she caught about five

You guys are the greatest kids! Great job braving the rain. I'll bet a lot of adults on this site wouldn't be as tough as you guys.

that's a pretty good crew there. started out slow, but were patient and found 'em stacked up in a small area between the inflow and a pile of rocks. made accurate casts and avoided tangles pretty well. very proud City Sushi shared her prime spot so that everyone could get bit.

I expect big things from this bunch

Great job out there is the rain Lilah!
I have very fond memories of taking my three kids to Lake Balboa and fishing for the tilapia when they were young. We could make at least a half day out of it with the fishing, paddle boats, feeding the ducks and having a little picnic. Oh and let's not to forget the jingle of the ice cream man who showed up right on cue.
Ahhh...those were the days. That little lake is still one of the best spots to learn the beginner techniques of fly casting with all of the room around you and the tilapia take small flies and midges pretty well.
Thanks for the memories and the report!

Pretty soon we will all be slaying the perchies on the sand. See ya soon!

Hi City Sushi!

I love your idea .... to go to calmer waters to get the fish.
I love also the fact that even the rain could not damper your spirit to have good times with your friends!
Heck ... so many of my very best childhood memories are actually of being out in the rain with friends!

Thank you for another spirit lifting report Lilah! 👍

Hi City Sushi

Wow what a fantastic way to spend a raining day - outdoors, fishing and with friends:Big Grin::Smile: You and your family really now how to turn a gray day into a bunch of "sunshine"!!!

Some of my most fond memories are of me and my little brother spending time fishing at Eisenhower Park in the city of Orange (OC) catching little bluegills for hours with our friends. Your report and awesome pics take me back to those special days. Thank you Lilah (and SWAT sister) for sharing your adventure with all of us.

I looking forward to your next amazing adventure.
